On Monday, the kiln guy is supposed to come and rewire my kiln so it can operate off the 208 Volt circuits in the building.
At least, I think he's coming. We spoke on the phone earlier in the week and he said that he's coming on Monday and he'd email me to let me know what time. I haven't heard from him, so I'm in that "hoping he'll show" phase. To prepare, Alex and I took the kiln apart which wasn't anywhere near as easy as the instructional video made it look, but will be pretty easy the next time. The video must have been for another model as parts of it didn't look like the inner workings of my kiln at all.
I've got a bunch of greenware waiting to fire, but I've got to make a whole bunch more to take advantage of the Fort Point Open Studio's next month. I've got a great amount of work to do to be ready, but for some reason, I'm confident it'll all come together.
Oh, and to add more chaos to the mix, I just cleaned everything in the studio and have started using porcelain. I wasn't really happy with the look of any of the stoneware clay I've seen up here so far and I've only got a small amount of the TX stoneware I brought with me.
I've got a number of bags/boxes that I brought up with me from TX and I bought some samples of the stuff available here. So far it's either too stiff to throw at all (I'm rolling slabs with it), or it's sooooo soft. I've got some nice cups so far. Tomorrow, bowls and maybe some vases.
Pics of some of the new stuff and the studio set up soon, I promise.
Here's one of the Texas pots to tide you over till then.
