Prompt #1: The first 'Chlack' Christmas morning together

Merry Christmas from the Bauer's…

Chloe stared at the card. She couldn’t believe what she was reading. She knew that Jack and Audrey were trying to rekindle what ever it was that they ever had. But, she wasn’t expecting this so soon. Well maybe, she thought, if Audrey had anything to do with it, this makes sense. Ever since the woman woke up from her ‘coma’ she had a one track mind. Defying her father she found Jack and whispered her sweet nothing’s into his ear. Chloe watched as Jack’s focus moved from healing himself to becoming the arm jewelry of Ms. Raines.

Chloe set the card down and walked past the empty crib. Staring at the half empty boxes she never knew she could feel this alone.

“Why Morris…why?” Her sobs filled the room. “The baby was all I had, I can’t lose you too.”

“That’s just it love. The baby was all we had.” Morris wiped her tears. “There is just not really an us.”

Chloe watched and wept as he closed the door.

Chloe had returned to CTU following her loss. She found the nightshift suited her. Sleep was something she never indulged in and work made the night go faster. Chloe knew at dawn she would return to her dark world and whatever the worth, it was easier to see during the light of day.

The skeleton crew this night was even quieter than the norm. Each face was long and each face had their story. None of them had another place to be. It was a band of loneliness trying to forget this night. As usual, when dawn broke she heard Nadia’s voice. “Chloe I’m here now, please go home.” Not wanting to leave Chloe tried to find a reason to stay. Today Nadia would not take her excuse.

“Go home now. That is an order.”

Chloe picked up her purse and slowing walked out the door.

“Merry Christmas.”

Overcome by her thoughts she never even heard the guard.

”Stay away from Jack. Stay away from me.” Chloe stood dumbfounded. “Jack is happy. You have your family. Just leave us alone.” Audrey turned and stormed away.

She never could understand why the woman hated her so. This was only a meeting of chance. Chloe was just buying groceries for god’s sake.

Fumbling with her keys she heard it, ‘fruckn’ Christmas music. “Damn Cat,” was all she could mutter. When she opened the door the smell of pine and cinnamon filled the air.

She couldn’t blame this on the cat.

A tree had sprung from the middle of the room. There were lights, ribbons, and beautiful balls. Next to the Christmas morning offering there was a sheepish grin.

“Jack?”

He stepped closer to her as she closed the door.

“How did you…”

“Morris gave me the key.”

“Morris? Why would he give you my key?”

“I asked him for it.”

Chloe was confused.

“Jack I don’t understand. Where is Audrey?”

“I don’t know, nor do I care.”

“But-”

“I left her more than a month ago. I didn’t know about you, Morris, and the baby until yesterday.”

“I don’t understand.”

Jack took her hand.

“Morris found me. He told me everything. He told me I was stupid if I let you go.”

“Let me go?”

Chloe dropped her purse.

“He helped me finally figured out what I wanted.”

“And so you bring me a tree?” She scowled.

“What else would you bring the person you love on Christmas morning?”

“Excuse me…wh…what did you say?”

Pulling her close, Jack eyes reflected the Christmas light.

“I love you Chloe. If what Morris says is true then you love me too.”

“What the hell does Morris know, he is an id-”

Chloe’s words were cut short by his lips on hers. As their passion began its dance they melted within longing heart. Wrapped in arms Jack pulled back just long enough to wish his love a very merry Christmas.
