Don't fall away, and leave me to myself

hey guys you know it's my day off and i got to do something i've been wanting to do for weeks

I SAW NEW MOON

AND I LIKED IT

No, not a fan of the books.  At all.  The things right and wrong about New Moon were pretty much the same as the things right and wrong about Twilight.  Though this movie lacked in vampire baseball, and that's one thing that deeply endears me to the first <3

What I Like:
- The photography ffffffff
- THE MUSIC
- The high emphasis on typically mundane human nuiances.  You know how Miyazaki films are so good at catching little details of human motion and expression?  I honestly feel that the Twilight movies does the same thing in real-life.  This is especially true with characters interacting with each other.  The kisses and the hugs and little touches are done SO WELL that I really could believe in the relationships behind them.
- Side characters kept on calling Bella out on how INSANE and DELUSIONAL she is. This is a win.  It felt like a nod to the audience, "yeah, we know she is overreacting and NOBODY would do what she does, but let's play along with it for now okay?"
- Actually everything about the side characters was amazing.
- ABS (Jacob's)
- JAWS, NOW STARRING A RED-HEAD HOTTIE.  Victoria ILU.
- The way they paralleled it to Romeo/Juliet.  Shut up I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.
- VAMPIRE COUNCIL OF BADASS
- THE FIGHT SCENES, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE TWENTY MORE OF THESE SCENES.  VAMPIRE WRESTLING ZOMG.
- FACE PUNCH!  Apparently in Twilight-verse, Jack Atlas got his own action movie. And it was awesome.
- I am super unspeakably gay for Alice fffffffffffffff

What I Didn't Like:
- ABS (Edward, please honey put that shit away)
- Actually Edward in general was physically very distracting in the wrong way.  There is one scene where you want to scream in horror cause his face is made-up like ten times paler than the rest of his body.  His eyes and bright red lips were ughn.  The only part about him I find mildly attractive is his hair, actually.
- Uh a cool side character died and we didn't even get a funeral scene for him, and no reaction from other chars either.
- Bella made some character development towards actually having a spine, only to have it instantly retracted T_T
- Again, nobody outright yelled at Bella for being selfish.  Especially Jacob.  I would have DESTROYED HER for how badly she used and manipulated him in this film.
- Why the fuck bother with giving Bella an awesome truck if you NEVER LET HER DRIVE IT.  That was so pussy and bothered me the most, feminism-wise.
- The pacing, urgh

I almost want to read New Moon just to know exactly what had been added/deleted/changed from the book.  One of my favorite touches was as Bella leaves the vampire councilroom, she sees a long line of tourists being led in (including CHILDREN), and then the screams of the people being eaten alive a few seconds later.  It left such a dark, powerful impact that cannot believe that was in the book.   There were so many other bits of dialogue and character actions/reactions that seem too good to really have come from S.Meyer.

Actually, I was really really REALLY won over by the vampire council, and Aro especially.  Another very strong example about how the people playing the side characters really took advantage of what little they were given from the book, took that inch and made a mile out of it.   The same can be said of pretty much all of the other side characters in both movies, with the sole exceptions being Bella's friends (who are tacked on like an afterthought, and only serve to be Bella's fanbrats).

The pacing of the movie was my biggest 'guh' of the film, as it was for me in the first movie.  I choose to blame the books for this, cause judging from the first Twilight book, it seems that S.Meyer has no concept of 'rising action'.  The climax of the film hits you BLINDLY, with virtually no lead up and the deus-ex-machina of Alice's appearance to get it going.  Then the entire plot and development concerning the werewolves is dropped COLD until three minutes until the end of the film.  And then treated poorly.  The vampire council honestly felt like it belonged in an entirely different film, it was such a sharp change of mood and setting.

Also, there is really no ignoring how much of a leap back Bella is for female self-empowerment as well.  She is still a generally revolting character, and there is really no on-screen reason why anybody should like her, love her, or even tolerate her civilly.  I don't blame Kristen Stewart for this, cause I think that she is doing her job right.  Unfortunately her job is acting out a deranged teenager with severe obsession, hallucination, and manipulation issues.  So you know.

Now I mentioned the Romeo/Juliet bit, and I feel I should explain that a little.  This was not Romeo/Juliet in the "OH NO WE ARE STAR-CROSSED OH NO".  New Moon instead focused on the " COMMITTED DOUBLE SUICIDE FOR LOVE" thing.  You know, except that Edward/Bella failed that last part. Unfortunately :<  But still, I was happy to have that part of the story paralleled, cause that is my favorite aspect of that tale.  As some people might have guessed XD

Uh I also left the movie wishing for an insane set of ships:
Alice/Bella (THIS IS CANON TO ME.  DON'T TELL ME THAT LESBIAN TWILIGHT WOULDN'T BE AWESOME)
Carlisle/Bella (fffffffffff the stitches scene was so hot ffffffffff I am honestly tempted to fic it myself don't stop me fffffffffff)
Laurent/Bella
Victoria/Bella
Bella/motorcycle (I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED THAT SHE ONLY USED THE BIKE ONCE.  I PRAYED THAT IT WOULD BE IMPORTANT TO PLOT LATER.)
Emmett/Rosalie/Bella (in the birthday party outfits, cause HOT DAMN)
Jacob/Edward (my only ship for those two guys)
Emily/Bella
Aro/Bella
Charlie "LADIES MAN" Swan/EVERYBODY.  Especially if Carlisle is his wingman. And they have pimpsuits.

I was going to make a Fandom Secret about how much I love this film and the first one, but fuck it.  I am secure enough to let everyone know. Kol we need to do a marathon one day.   Also I saw Princess and the Frog last week with dearest Angie, and I plan on seeing Avatar within the next week as well (or perhaps I will wait until I visit my mom to see it).   Princess was spellbinding and gorgeous, though I think I was way too critical of it in my first watching, so I look forward to seeing it again.   Avatar because I'm curious, though to me it reeks of epic racefail.  (There was no racefail in Princess and Frog, only in the people who keep on trying to pick some out.)

Going to make a giant list of my favorite songs from 2009 within the next week.  If you still trust in my taste by then, look forward to it.
