Suriru fic background Suriru Prologue April 2004-
Melissa sighed, she wondered for the umpteenth time why her parents decided she needed a job. She was only 14; her best friend Cashel didn’t have a job. Then again Cashel was sick; she had to be careful when she played with her. If Cashel pushed herself too hard then Tsubasa-mama yelled at her. She didn’t like upsetting the only parents she had ever known. She loved Tackey-papa and Tsubasa-mama. She had been an intern since the Ya-Ya-Yah show’s first anniversary. She was supposed to keep an eye on the little Juniors like Morichi Hiroki and Nakajima Yuto. Yuto was a fresh Junior, he was also her uncle-which was weird and he was trouble. She was annoyed when the show decided to hold an audition on one of its episodes. She knew she was going to be responsible for more then just Yuto and Hiroki after that.
Melissa wasn’t stupid, she knew her father was a vampire and so were a lot of her parents’ friends. Hiroki wasn’t a vampire but Yuto, the annoying bouncing brat was. Now he was missing, she was in trouble again for not watching him closer. She was searching the studio for him again.
Yuto had hid in a dark closet he had been playing hide and seek with Ya-Ya-Yah and their friends. Inoo was it and Inoo hated the dark. Yuto knew he was a vampire, his dad was and his mother was from a family of vampires. He started shaking and was feeling strange. He could hear a heartbeat getting louder as it approached his hiding place. He felt his teeth in the dark, he had fangs…
Melissa opened the door, it was dark…
Yuto could hear the blood pulsing through her veins; he leapt at her and knocked her to the ground.
Melissa let out a soft cry as she hit the floor, the hall light showed her a glimmer of Yuto’s fangs.
Yuto sunk his fangs into her throat and drank.
Melissa whimpered and fainted.
Yuto drank hungrily, he would be in trouble later but right now he didn’t care. He finished feeding and sat there in the doorway watching her.
Melissa woke up groggy, weak and starving.
Yuto was scared, “Am I in trouble…”
Melissa tried to sit up and fell back down, “Go get Tsubasa…”
Yuto ran to find him.
Tsubasa was practicing when one of his daughter’s charges ran into the room he was practicing in.
“Tsubasa-sempai…” Yuto couldn’t cry but his voice was choked with sobs, “Come quick, I think I hurt Melissa…”
Tsubasa could smell blood on the boy, he wasn’t a vampire but dating one he was accustomed to the smell.
Yuto dragged Tsubasa to where Melissa was, “You have to help her…I didn’t mean to…”
Tsubasa cradled his daughter in his arms and called Tackey, “Tackey meet me in the dressing room. It’s Melissa…” he carried her gently, he didn’t know much about vampires, in some ways he was still scared of them. Why had he let Tackey talk him into agreeing to this…
Tackey ran in and smelled blood on his half-brother, his daughter’s blood. He knelt beside her, “Melissa…”
She whispered “Daddy…I’m scared…”
Tackey could feel how weak she was, he couldn’t lose her. He mentally threw Yuto out of the room and locked the door. He looked at his lover, Tsubasa was terrified. He held the nail of his forefinger to his wrist, “Tsubasa, there is only one way to save her. I don’t even know if it will work…”
Tsubasa burst into tears, “I don’t care…save her…”
Tackey slit his wrist and held it to Melissa’s lips, “Drink…you have to…”
Melissa nearly gagged at the taste, but her father’s command made her do it. She was weak; she could feel it strengthen her.
Tackey felt her grow stronger and she fell into a peaceful sleep. Girls couldn’t become vampires but hopefully his blood would save her. He made Yuto return, the young vampire would become very strong one day. He ordered him to never mention this to anyone but his parents. He sent the boy home and turned to Tsubasa, “I will tell them she fainted. Take her home, let her sleep…”
Tsubasa was still crying, “Okay…”
Tackey hugged him, “I love her too…she is ours. I’m sure she’ll be fine…”
Three days later…
Melissa awoke to find Tsubasa curled up next to her on her bed, she felt funny…
Tackey felt her wake; he sensed something different about her…he knew what he had done in that instant. He had done the impossible…to save his daughter’s life he had given her the blood of a powerful vampire. She was a vampire…there were no female vampires. Would Tsubasa forgive him?
May 2004-
Tackey and Tsubasa invited their friends Kouichi and Tsuyoshi over. They had to tell someone. They had forbidden Melissa to tell her secret.
Kouichi led Cashel and Tsuyoshi into Tackey and Tsubasa’s apartment.
Tsubasa nervously told Melissa to take Cashel back to her room. Melissa had already eaten, he was so afraid to let her out of his sight now. Tackey made sure to keep her hunger for blood under control while he tried to tempt her with human food. He felt out of place in their family now as the only human; Melissa was only half vampire but he still felt alone. Tackey was forging a relation with their daughter; she was part of a world he was still afraid to join completely.
Tackey waited until the girls were gone and they were all sitting at the table, “You two know Yuto came into his powers already right…”
Kouichi nodded, “Yes…” he was already getting a feeling of dread, after tonight nothing would be the same.
Tackey reached for Tsubasa’s hand, “He fed on Melissa…”
Tsuyoshi was concerned now, “Is she okay…she looked fine.”
Kouichi knew young vampires could be dangerous, “What happened…”
Tsubasa started to cry softly, “He nearly killed her…”
Kouichi turned white, “Tackey…you didn’t…”
Tackey nodded, “I had to save her…I gave her my blood.”
“What happened…” Tsuyoshi was curious…
Tsubasa whispered, “She’s a vampire…”
Kouichi stared at him, “That’s not possible…” his daughter’s best friend was a vampire…girls were incapable of being vampires. They could give birth to male vampires but they couldn’t become one.
Tackey called for Melissa.
She came back holding Cashel’s hand, “Yes daddy…”
“Tell uncle Kouichi what you had for lunch…”
Melissa was a little confused but answered, “I had a bag of A+ and Tsubasa-mama made gyoza.”
Cashel knew that her parents were vampires; she also knew vampires never got sick. Her best friend was a vampire, she hated being sick. If she could find a way to become a vampire then perhaps her condition would disappear.
Kouichi spoke softly, “What are you going to do? Who knows what Johnny will do if he finds out…”
Tsubasa’s face hardened, “I won’t let him take her away. She’s my daughter, vampire or not I love her and I will protect her.”
Tsuyoshi nodded, “We’ll all protect her.”
