I'm reading the new Einstein biography. It's difficult reading because I've never taken a physics class. It's also difficult reading because it makes me feel so utterly inadequate. He was incredible and the rest of us probably aren't, happily lost in the daily grind, rarely thinking outside the box.

He spent his time reading Spinoza and Kant, discussing divine nature with friends over coffee or taking in some Bach and Mozart at a dinner party. In a way, though, I guess that's how I spend my time, reading and discussing hip books and enjoying music.

This weekend's socialization was dominated by conversations of Harry Potter and the new Gwen Stefani single. Einstein marveled at the almost embarrassingly naked emotion of Beethoven's Piano Sonato No. 14 and my friends and I marveled at the almost embarrassingly naked Britney Spears. So maybe we're more alike than I thought.

Here's a picture of Ali, suit-ed up for his birthday dinner, with friends. More pix are on flickr.
