02 - PAST: (Lily‘s POV) = SEV 1st year 2nd half

Strange events had occurred to Lily ever since she first met the Slytherin boy in the train at the beginning of the school year. She had been having premonitions more and more often, sometimes it was like what would be the best thing to study for the next class. She would know before hand what kind of questions would be asked and thus be able to answer them correctly. It had done miracles to her grades.

The one she seemed to have the biggest success with was potions. She could tell when to add what by simply letting her instincts guide her. It was amusing and disconcerting at the same time.

She had met with the Slytherin by chance a few times in the hall. His mere presence seemed to make her sensitive to everything around her. She could suddenly hear pieces of conversations, see images of events, and people that she barely recognized, because they were much older looking in those vision that in her current reality.

Severus seemed not to take notice of his effect on her and she was kind of scared to ask him if he even was aware of what had happened in the train. To some extend she doubted it since he had been completely unresponsive while she had met Odin.

Also, she had decided not to ask the adults about her newly gained ability, something inside her kept refraining her from speaking to them. Instead she had gone and done some research on the things she could remember.

She had researched in the library about the northern mythology. Wizards had a different point of view on it than muggles, and she quickly realized that she would need to compare notes and decide which were most likely to be truthful. Early November she had owled her parents asking to be send books on the northern gods and it had taken the better part of her free time to study on them.

From the little she had known to start with, her knowledge had not increased very much. There were a lot of things that were simple speculation and little she could work with that were actual facts. Much had been lost after the early expansion of Christianity in Europe.

From what she remembered from her encounter with Odin, she had been granted some of Skuld’s power to see the future with far more clarity than the normal wizard or witch could. Odin had said that she was to assist the Descendant of Loki in his battle against Ragnarök.

In the books Ragnarök was described as the final battle in which the gods would battle and the end of the world would follow. Considering that much was simply exaggerated, Ragnarök probably spoke of a large battle that would bring a mayor change to society as it was known and not necessarily bring forth the complete destruction of the world.

Rangarök was to be started by Loki, the Trickster and Blood Brother of Odin himself. The books were rather unclear as to why Loki would want to fight his Blood Brother. Speculations told that it was because of the differences of opinions escalating to such an extend that Loki would rise to overthrow the gods.

Lily sighed and let herself fall back on her bed where she remained starring at the ceiling for a long time trying to clear her head.

Loki was one the most mysterious beings in the mythology. Although there weren’t any signs to prove that he was actually a true god in the sense of Odin, the fact that he was a Blood Brother to him, an equal to the ruler of the gods, was enough for to make him a powerful ally or enemy.

The stories of him always described him as a character torn between darkness and light. The trickster title was indeed a good way to describe him.

Loki seemed to act rashly and without considering the consequences of his actions, yet he would always make sure to assist in correcting his wrong doings.

Lily understood that Odin had instructed her to find someone that was not necessarily in the true sense of the words descendant of the trickster, but would be similar in character. Meaning that whoever this person was he or she would be both light and darkness in one.

Severus was in some way involved in this, of that she was sure. She remembered clearly Skuld’s reaction at seeing him, and she was sure that had Odin only meant to see her, she would have appeared by herself in his Great Hall.

The fact that her new ability seemed to be strengthen by the younger boy also indicated that he was going to play an important role in the future battle.

She had seen glimpses of things that were to come, death and destruction at the hand of masked wizards and witches alike. The storm was already growing, slowly increasing in his strength. The dark would rise from their very mist, Skuld’s power had shown her that allies and enemies alike would fall prey to it, but it would only be the first wave, for the second rise would be a terrible sight to behold…

Severus’ role though was still not very clear to her, so she had decided that for the time being she would concentrate on the things she could control. Severus could always be involved later.

There was something else that she recalled from her little visit of Valhalla. Skuld words during the pact between them. The young Norse had referred to her as the mother of Sigyn, Loki’s wife. The woman that would hold a bowl over her husband to protect him from the poison dripping down on him during his imprisonment.

Free interpretation of the stories let Lily to believe that the role of her future child would be to support and protect whoever turned out to be the Descendant of Loki, probably even love this person, if the legends were to be believed.

She shuddered unwillingly after laying an arm over her eyes.

If her conclusions so far were accurate, then the upcoming war was going to last for a long time. She was a child herself and Odin, the legends, and her own visions indicated that her child would assist the Descendant of Loki, meaning that her child would have to grow up as well.

She could at least count on the battle to last a decade if not longer. And that was indeed a long time for a war to last…

“Hey Lily.”

Lily raised her arm and looked at her roommate. “Hi.”

“Are you coming down with us to eat dinner?” the girl asked.

Smiling friendly, Lily pushed herself into a sitting position. “Sure, are you all finished studying?”

The girl sighed. “More or less. I don’t know how you manage to get everything into your head, its like you’d know what to study for.”

Lily gave a soft laugh. “Na…” she shook her head waving dismissively with her hand in front of her.. “I only have an exceptionally good memory, beside, remember that the Sorting Hat wanted me to go to Ravenclaw.”

A warm laugh replied her and the girl waved for her to hurry up. “Well, com’on, the other’s are waiting for us downstairs.”

Joining her friend, Lily followed her and the others out of the Gryffindor Common Room and towards the Grand Stairs.

She was talking and laughing with her friends as they waited for the staircase to move when someone bumped into her from behind. Stumbling almost down the stairs, her friends caught her and steadied her.

“Hey!” the girl to her right snapped. “Pay a little attention!”

“Sorry.” A duo of voices replied.

Lily turned around to look at two younger boys looking much too smug and not apologetic at all for her taste. One of the first years was wearing round glasses, his mop of hair was unruly and his blue eyes held mirth in them. The other boy had long hair held back at the base of his neck. The look in his eyes mirrored that of his companion.

“Potter! Black!” the Gryffindor prefect snapped at them. “I thought that you had already been warned about running in the Stair Ways.”

Suddenly Lily’s vision seemed to turn blurry and where she knew the two boys to be standing there was misty form of two handsome looking adults. The man with the glasses turned to the other and nudged him with his arm while grinning from ear to ear.

“You look like your birthday and Christmas came all in one, Prongs.” The -now short haired- man said.

The other was practically beaming at his friend. “Siri, Lily is pregnant!” the one with the glasses exclaimed excited. “Do you know what that means?” he asked but obviously not expecting an answer continued to speak. “I’m going to be a dad!”

The mist lessened and Lily’ could only stare at the two boys in complete horror and she found herself cursing her ability. There were things that she really did not want to know this early in life. She was barely fourteen!

Knowing the future took all the excitement and interesting things of her life if she knew them before hand.

“Lily?”

She blinked and turned to her friends. “Yes?”

The girls looked at her worriedly. “Are you alright?” one of them asked. “You looked out of it for a moment.”

She nodded quickly and smiled reassuringly. “Yes, I’m fine.” She then pointed at the stairs behind them. “Look we can go down now.”

The others turned. “Finally. Let’s go, I’m starving.” With an agreeing cheer the girls headed down the stairs.

Lily looked back at the two boys still being reprimanded by the prefect.

Life sucked.
