Raising children

I just saw a video of a black father hitting his 13 year-old daughter with a belt, while holding her by the hair and calling hoe and other names. Apparently, the girl went missing for 3 days and came back "skimpily dressed". I saw it in a forum, and I was appalled at the amount of people thinking this was ~effective parenting. What the fuck? That parenting was probably why she was okay with leaving in the first place. I mean, respect your children if you want to be respected to. Every black family I know, including my own, thinks that there's nothing a good ol' ass whooping won't fix. Hmm, let's have a look at the jail population, shall we? I hate, hate this shit. Parents are supposed to show love and care for their children; yes, they have to discipline them too, but out of love, not out of anger. No, treating your children like runaway slaves is not okay and you shouldn't be a parent. You may think you children turn out fine if they never give you trouble, are college educated etc.... but they are psychological consequences (low self-esteem, trust issues, anger-management issues...) and they can grow to resent you.
