"Milk Class"

Apr 07, 2009 21:48

I had my breastfeeding class tonight...or as Lee likes to call it my "milk class" :-P He didn't go....which in retrospect I'm soooooo glad he didn't...he would have HATED it!!! There were 5 girls there....two brought husbands....those poor husbands looked like they wanted to stab their eyes out haha. When we passed around breast models and nipple shields etc. the guys touched them as though they were poison :-)

I on the other hand LOVED the class. It was only 2 hours but I learned a ton....as opposed to the baby class on Saturday where I felt I knew about half the stuff already I really didn't know hardly anything about breastfeeding and now I feel totally ready so that's good. There was a different nurse teaching this class compared to Saturday....both nurses so far have been super nice young nurses with young kids themselves....and they have all been very helpful, and excited to see us when we deliver etc....so I feel really good about the nursing care I'll get in labor and delivery...and they are the ones who will help with breastfeeding and stuff too in the hospital.

I learned all kinds of interesting things that I didn't know before about the benefits of breastfeeding (even though I planned to do it anyways)...but like, I didn't know that if you breastfeed your baby has a drastically reduced risk of allergies, obesity, etc....but also even a much smaller risk of developing things like breast cancer as an adult! And an average 8 point IQ score raise. And when your baby is exposed to germs those germs when your baby breastfeeds actually get transfered to mom's breast and then mom naturally starts producing the antibodies for those germs so that during subsequent feedings baby gets immunities to what they were just exposed to....crazy how that all works!

I told Lee that the only thing he might miss out on by not coming is getting to see boobie video haha....but when i got home tonight I told him he didn't miss out...b/c the video we watched was from like the 90s so all the women had big 90s hair and stuff....not so attractive...and I"m pretty sure they picked the fugliest women ever (sorry, i'm probably being really rude haha)....but yeah....I kept wondering if only horribly ugly/scary women breastfed in the 90s when the video was made! :-P

In non milk-related news....Raya had the craziest case of hiccups today. They made my butt have hiccups! I don't know if with every hiccup her head was slamming into my chair or what, but I sat at my desk totally distracted just thinking about how my butt was essentially having hiccups and I couldn't stop it lol. The funniest part was I came home and was reading my pregnant message board and found a post from someone who today commented about the exact same thing...she was asking if anyone else's butt had hiccups! Must be more common than I thought :-)

Tomorrow is my last day of work....then "spring break" until Tuesday....can't wait! This weekend is supposed to be nice weather too....yippee!
