The first of March; possibly the first really gorgeous day we've had this year. It's been sunny; it hasn't looked like it's rained in the past 24 hours, neither does it look like it's going to rain. And it's been pleasantly warm. Not "Ooh! Summer!" warm, just "Oh how pleasant to be witnessing the first whiff of spring tra di la whohoo!" warm.

So much for my mother's horror snow predictions. I've been able to wear my new suede boots everywhere. They're the most gorgeous boots in existence; calf-length, black suede, pink embroidery in the shape of rye-grass stems (I can't imagine it's really rye-grass, but that's the best I can come up with), and they were 75% off in the sale. I got £100 boots for £25, or rather my mother did, because she's got impeccable dress sense.

My aunt has kindly granted her permission for me to visit her whenever. So I'll probably go after my birthday, which is in a week and a half, when I'm more likely to have some money which I can drop on make-up and Doctor Who DVDs. And when I can afford the train ticket. I'll have a hell of a time getting there, though, because I've got a poorly placed lecture at 4-5. I'm trying to decide whether I can miss it for the sake of being able to depart shortly after lunch - I'll have to look up the journey time. I don't want to miss it, and if the journey to Manchester is significantly less than an hour I won't miss it.

There's some strike going on next Tuesday with all the teachers and lecturers, apart from my German teacher. Doubt my biochem practical will be cancelled, though I sorely hope it will because it's not assessed... I'll probably worry about not doing it if it is cancelled... I'm turning into Lisa Simpson. Turning back into Lisa Simpson.

Cooked the most marvellous meal tonight - spag bol. Spaghetti Bolognese; beef mince, stock cube, mixed herbs, red wine, everything you're meant to put in. It's the food of the gods. Drank a glass of wine in order to appear sophisticated - then I looked at myself in the mirror and realised that I just looked drunk. Conclusion: do not drink on an empty stomach. Wine may be my nepenthe (is that a correct usage of the word?) but it has the unfortunate side-effect of drunkennness.

Auf wiedersehen!
