You know, things... and stuff...

So... a couple of things!

Remember that time? When Dave Holland played Josh McHan’s bass? That was pretty awesome. Yeah. I saw Dave Holland again on Thursday night, at the RegattaBar (yeah it’s all one word; but it’s not one word that’s quite as cool as ErinCraig, I must say) in Cambridge. It was really wonderful; it was the same group he had with him that he had when he was in Edmonton, except for Chris Potter couldn’t be there or something, so they had a different sax player, names Antonio Hart (I think). Anyways, I didn’t know Chris Potter wouldn’t be there beforehand, and when I got there and people were talking about this other sax player, I was kind of disappointed, but he turned out to be really awesome. He and Robin Eubanks both took some really excellent solos; actually, the whole band had awesome solos, who am I kidding. And their time feel… like… dang. Seriously. I wish my time feel was that good. I don’t know if they played a tune in a regular meter the whole night, but the way they played, even if it was in odd times, it grooved so hard, it didn’t even matter.

I was a little freaked out to go to this show; I was afraid I wouldn’t know anyone because I was going by myself. Actually, I knew I wouldn’t know anyone. I was afraid of looking like a dork, because I’m always afraid of stupid things like that. But, I saw a dude there from my psych class and a dude from my MTEC class. I also saw John, my piano teacher, and I chatted with him for a bit before going in, and I saw David, my vocal improv and jazz choir teacher. It ended up that I was sitting at the table next to David’s (they have tables like at the Yardbird, but the seats are numbered and assigned, which is strange) and he invited me to sit with him, so that was cool. I didn’t feel like quite so much of a dork then. And Dave Holland was pretty much pretty awesome. So… yeah!

On Thursday, our jazz choir sang with a big band. And seriously, how awesome was that. It was your typical "big band dinner and dance" repertoire, consisting of Glenn Miller, Glenn Miller, and then some Glenn Miller... but that was all right. The thing that floored me, though, was how many dancers there were! You know how when big bands do dances at hom, no-one really goes to dance? This show was at a community hall, and the entire gym floor was packed with dancers. I have actually never seen anything like it... it was so much fun to see it, and then sing when so many people were dancing. We're going to do it again in December; I can't wait to go back.

Well... let's see, what else can I blab on about. As of Thursday, I have logged 620 km on my bicycle. However, the little wire that connects the display counter to the thing on the wheel that measured snapped... so... I have no more counter, unless I can figure out how to splice wires or something. Anyways, yays me! And now, after an hour of waiting, my pizza lunch is here, so I must go, because I'm hungry. Yay pizza!
