It seems like that sure-fire hire I keep talking about: My flat-mate, Tommy, was the one who got tipped off about the job. He was told to have me come down and apply, and they received me easily at the shop today. It's a Checker's Autoparts store, just five minutes down the street near a Pirate's Fish & Chips and a Fry's Food & Grocery store. The guy I talked to--Jessie--was a real cool, laid-back Mexican guy covered in tattoos. We talked easily once he learned I was the roommate who Tommy had mentioned. It's a part-time parts courier position, which will net me some mechanical experience and familiarity with tools and the machinery that runs your car... sooo...
Really, I gotta say: At this age, I oughtta know mechanics already, but I don't. My familiarity is basic: Spark plugs, fluid checks, visual inspections, putting my ear to the idling engine to listen for improper banging noises... (not really!). Still: Better now instead of never. I've got a lotta plans for this job, and I'm hoping I can get things done with it once I have it. Anything is better than nothing. I'm gonna run with this.
Tomorrow, I'm going to show up a little bit before 10am to meet with Jessie and take a computer-based test of some sort. Since they were busy yesterday, I didn't ask all the questions I wanted to, and one of them was how much the position paid... So, there will be a few things I need to run by him to make sure I'm up-to-speed. I have a lotta people rooting for me, and a couple who are even directly willing to help me out if I need anything. We'll see where things go from here, but, needless to say: I'M EXCITED! ANXIOUS! WANTING! :D
Then, next week, I go up north to see my love and spend time. <3
