Permanent Criminal Records
Criminal records carry some IC restrictions, depending on the severity of the crime or the jail sentence. The following is a general, standardized guideline for these. Special circumstances and situations can be worked out with the mods as they come up! Any restrictions a character has acquired will be listed directly on the permanent record after the description of the crime and the repercussions gained by it.
For past offenders (before December 2010): if your character has done something that would have earned them a permanent record somewhere in the bowels of the Thor's police system, and you would like for them to have a record, please comment to this post to let us know, so we can create one for them! This is NOT retroactive, so if you don't want a record for your character's past crimes, no worries!
General guidelines for IC pay and work restrictions:
1 week or less of of jail time (Minor offense) = character may be ineligible for a wage increase the following month. This is subject to mod discretion, and will be discussed with the player.
2 weeks of jail time (Medium offense) = character is ineligible for both a wage increase and room upgrade.
Over 2 weeks of jail time = character is ineligible for wage increase, and may be downgraded a room level. Since any jail time over 2 weeks is left to player discretion, this penalty will naturally be discussed with the mods as it comes up.
***Characters convicted of murder are ineligible for any jobs within the police, hospitals, schools, or any job working with children (such as daycare). From then on out it also takes almost twice as long to work your way up the pay levels. (So two months at Minimum Wage instead of just one to advance to Somewhat Decent, five months at Somewhat Decent to advance to College Degree, and eight months at College Degree to advance to CEO Level.)
Generally, the longest mandatory jail sentence is 2 weeks, and we leave it up to the player to extend the sentence beyond that point. For more information, please check out this page.
For minor offenses (like the second shown in the example below), things like fines and community service might be instituted, but for the most part those can be handwaved unless you're interested in playing them out.
