replace the "guys" with "girls" and we have the same problem.

Hi. My name is Erica. I saw this entry when I was procrastinating and reading the friends of the New College LJ. For the record, this is my third year at New College and I am currently thesising. Honestly, I think you will be fine. Here are my thoughts on the conversation you had ( ... )

3. The male:female ratio is more like 40:60 than 1:2. I would also say that when it comes down to it, there is a greater percentage of females are homosexual than the percentage of males who are homosexual. That evens out the playing field quite a bit. If you're into random hookups, you won't have any problems. If you want a long-term, committed relationship, that'll be a bit harder. When it comes down to it, I'm about the only straight New College girl that I know that hasn't had a long term relationship with a New College boy (although I have casually dated four or five). And for future reference, I can only name like three New College boys I'd actually consider computer nerds, but even then their level of dweebiness is significantly below that of your average boy from MIT, Georgia Tech, etc ( ... )

Being the person who made the claims you have attempted to refute, I will defend myself ( ... )

Thanks for your response too. I think it just goes to show that New College really can be whatever you want it to be ( ... )

steph - i've lived in sarasota all my life and i can tell you with confidence that you are in fact NOT making a mistake that will cost you your future. in fact, i read that and chuckled a little bit because it was so absurd i thought you were joking. i really dont know what that kid is talking about... like that girl who goes to new college mentioned the "walls" parties, i cant get enough of those. i would have loved college if i hadn't had the overpowering desire to get out of srq. please listen to me and calm down: i promise that ther'es nothing insurmountable about new college to fear.
and i think the person who said there are no attractive guys at new college had a different opinion about what is attractive than you and i do

the lack of attractive guys is a commonly discussed topic in conversations here. the new college therapist told me that girls complain about it to him all the time.

its beyond subjectivity.

I have the confidence to make this claim:

The majority of the guys at New College would be losers in Miami.

Keep in mind that the word "majority" only entails 50% plus one.

Nobody can deny that New College adheres to a radically different social code that redefines what is considered "cool" and "attractive."

all i meant by what i said about new college men was exactly what you said, there exists radically different social, ethical, individuality ideals there that are the biggest part of what make the college unique. in my opinion, stephanie embodies or at least adheres to a good portion of these ideals which makes me think she will find suitable friends and groups and activities there. moving from miami to ANYWHERE (including new college) will require a significant amount of adjustment.
on top of that, i've found innumerable sarasota residents and locals off campus i would deem interesting and worth spendindg time with. i think you're being a little harsh with the new college population, but perhaps you have a better idea than i do since you go there.
