The 2018 Update

Nov 27, 2018 10:55

2018 has been an interesting year. We miss Dad but time waits for no one. Liam is growing up so quickly. We signed him up for soccer in the Spring and he loved it. It took a few games, but once he figured it out, his aggressiveness took over and he played well, scoring a lot of goals. They don't keep score, but we were never outscored. I even helped coach his fall team, which went "undefeated" as well.

By the time his second season rolled around, he was a scoring machine. He scored SIX goals in his first game! We were proud of him, but I was more proud when he began to pass the ball. That's almost unheard of at this age. He had two assists this season! We really like the parents of his teammates too.

Now that Fall is here Liam has started wrestling. He was slow to pick it up, at first, but now, after three weeks, he has grown accustomed to what is expected at practice. It's still too early to tell whether he will be "good" at it, but as long as he's having fun, then I consider it a success.

Of course Ashley and I, as parents, have over-extended by taking him to B-Boy Dance class on Wednesdays in East Nashville. It's a 45 minute drive, one-way, for a 30 minute class, but this is his love. And his instructor, Mister Quincey is a really good instructor, and handles him well.

Ash and I are doing well. She has lost over 110 pounds since February, when she had her weight loss surgery. I'm proud of her and am considering doing the same thing now.

Mom is adapting to her new reality, without Dad. She needs a smaller home, but hasn't considered moving. Her health is up and down - she's having hernia surgery today. She and Ashley are not very close so I'm torn between the two sometime. It was easier when I worked at home all day, for Killer Woodson. In April I started my new job with Journeys as the SEO and Site Search Manager for Journeys.com. I love the work I do, but it's a drive. I don't have much freelance work any more, mostly due to my time limits. I also don't have time to handle things like take Mom's garbage. I stop in and make sure she's doing well every week and also do things like change light bulbs or filters, or move plants around. I feel like a bad son sometimes, but it's not realistic to expect me to mow her 1+ acre yard, or mulch, or maintain her home as well as ours. She eats with us at least once every other week. her civic

We have three new pets - hermit crabs; EC4, Pandy, and Lars. Two are named after wrestlers. I take care of them. The kitties are good. Gracie is an indoor/outdoor cat now.

More to come!
