A Pirate Story
Current mood: content

Once upon a time, there was an impressionable young girl. She left home one day seeking fame, glory and adventure, but instead she found pirates.
Now, the young girl didn't have much experience with much of anything, her life up to this point has consisted mostly of life on the farm, peppered with the occasional jaunt into the big city. Unfortunately for the girl, due to her age, there was not a lot she could do in the city, and so her experience was limited. The young girl, however, had a pretty good bluff, and could make most people believe anything that she wanted.
So, the young girl, having set off for fame and fortune and finding pirates, decided that she was going to shoot for the moon and set her sights on the dashing young captain. She was not very wise in the ways of men, and although she had sampled a couple, she was far too green to take on this task.
The dashing young pirate captain's eye was indeed caught by the fair young lass, for she was indeed fair...and amply endowed as well. So, being a true pirate, he brought her aboard his ship and made her his lover. The young girl was thrilled, however, in her youth and innocence, did not see that the captain's heart was damaged, and only saw the thrill of the experience.
It came about one day that the captain's eye was caught by the lover of one of his shipmates and being damaged of heart, and therefore careless with the tender heart of the young lass, the captain arranged for a trade. She was heartbroken. Although she truly cared for the dashing young captain, he did not care for her it seemed. So, angry and hurt, confused and unsure of what to do next, the young lass stayed with the man her captain had traded her to.
Now, the man that her captain had traded her to had a heart as black as midnight and a soul that was twisted and malignant. He led the girl to believe that the captain didn't care for her and she was better off without him. He told her that the captain had been using her and couldn't possibly have any feelings toward her if he could trade her off so easily, discarding her as though she were nothing.
In her youthful innocence, the young girl believed, and being heartbroken, set out to hurt her captain as she was hurting. She never knew how much her leaving hurt her captain, for not long after she was traded off, she left the blackhearted pirate and, ashamed of her behavior and humbled by her experiences, the broken hearted lass set out for home.
The years passed, and through no fault of her own, the story of the young girl and the pirate captain gained a legendary infamous status, and the young girl became known as an infamous pirate queen.
She lived her life quietly, grew stronger, wiser and independant. She raised a daughter on her own and tried to stay away from fortune and fame, for that had only brought her confusion and heartbreak.
Many years passed, and the young girl, now a woman, wise and strong, saw her captain once again at a village festival. The years that had passed meant nothing, the heartache was forgotten. The young woman only saw the captain that she had once loved, and with joy in her broken heart once more, tried to speak to him...only to be turned away by his latest lover.
Wiser now, and not wanting to interfere with what she thought was a happy union, and understanding now how infamous she was , the young woman walked away with nothing more than her pride, and even that was barely intact. But, the young woman had learned dignity and grace in her years, and so let the situation be.
A few more years passed, and one cold and bitter Christmas, the dashing young captain, older now, and wiser in the ways of the heart, came seeking the young woman. For hours, they sat and talked, he finally understanding the hurt that he had caused the young woman, and she finally understanding why he had done the things he did.He quickly came to realize that the young woman was not only grown up, she had grown up into the very woman he had spent all those years trying to find. And so it came to be that she forgave him, and he, her.
Cautiously the young woman agreed to come back aboard the captain's ship and sail with him once more, he with his strapping and intelligent son, and she with her beautiful daughter. However, the young woman still had to win the affections of the captain's crew.
Older now, wiser and more compassionate, but also more cautious, (and now knowing the infamous story that had been spread about their earlier years), the young woman decided that before she would actually set sail with the captain, the crew would have to forgive her for past transgressions and misunderstandings perpetuated by the evil hearted sailor that was no longer part of the crew.
One by one she won the affections of the crew. Finally they realized that as people age, they grow and change, and that she was no longer the naive, careless woman she had once been.
And so the young woman, having finally found her fortune and fame ( and also her beloved captain), and the captain, having finally found his perfect pirate queen, set sail on his ship for ports unknown.
It was never known where they ended up, some said that the ship broke apart in a storm never to be seen again, and some said that before that happened, the captain, his queen and their children built a palace on a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific with treasure they found.
I, myself don't even know where they ended up, but I am sure of one thing, and that is where ever they are, they are happy and in love, the captain and his queen. Probably off somewhere searching for buried treasure, or lying on warm tropical beaches, far from the lies and hurtful tales of the blackhearted sailor.
What's that? What happened to the blackhearted sailor? He was cast off the captain's ship and set ashore many years before the captain sought out his lady. He made his fortune by lying, cheating and stealing, and did very well for himself. No, that's not fair, but evil rarely is fair. However, by being what and who he was, the blackhearted pirate may have had riches, but he also was very much alone and in being alone was lonely. And if you ask me dear Constant Reader, that's just about the worst punishment of all.

From the sorceress who also had infamy beyond her experience, I can assure you that it is possible to find a new place among the crew. I will proudly walk with you shoulder to shoulder with heads held high. We have both bravely faced the miscommunications of our youth and we are stronger and wiser for it. How sad a world would it be if none of us grew and changed with time. Like good mead, we have come to a brilliant age in the bottle.
