Haru/Yuki for
swtjemz It really was a very nice spring day, Hatsuharu decided as he walked along the park path with his hands in his pockets. The sun was shining brightly, the birds were being loud enough that he could barely hear the distant thunder of cars from the main roads. School had finally let out for the week, and Tohru got a day off work and had organized a picnic for everyone.
It helped Haru's mood, of course, that he was currently walking alongside his first love in a companionable silence, the two of them on their way back to the park after helping deliver an errand for Tohru (because she may be adorable and sweet, but she was ditzy and absent-minded like that) just just basking in the sunny day and the rich scent of flowers blooming.
And for once, there was no Kyou around to start a fight with, no Shigure to nag and tease them, no other family members drawing either of their attention away and ruining their moods.
Haru allowed himself a small smile as he heard the rest of the family members in the distance, still far enough off that he and Yuki had a little privacy. He could hear Tohru's placating voice pleading for someone to either stop fighting or stop antagonizing someone else, Momiji's high-pitched laughter and squeals along with Kyou's loud arguing and Ayame's bolstering voice.
The past several days had been peaceful; more peaceful than any of them had dared to hope for with Akito in the background, ready to strike at their happiness at any moment, threatening to separate beloved Tohru from the family.
But at the moment... at the moment, everything was perfect. The spring day, the picnic, and walking alongside Yuki. Being able to walk this closely with his cousin, knowing that the older teen was relaxed and happy- more relaxed than he would ever have been in the Main House, and healthier than he had been most of his life.
"Ah- the sakura petals..."
Haru blinked from where he had been staring at the strands of Yuki's hair, watching the grey strands move in the slight breeze, and glanced towards where Yuki was looking, realizing that most of the pink and white blossoms on the trees were starting to shiver and fall as another gust of wind came, creating a rain of flower petals and prompting the laughter of children and families who had also deigned to visit the park on that day.
The two of them stop to stare for a while, watching the flower petals continue to fall at a steady pace even after the winds stopped, delighting in the happy sounds around them. It is a moment later when Haru gathers enough courage to reach out with a hand to grab at a white petal that had lingered in Yuki's hair, tugging it off gently.
Yuki turned at the touch, purple eyes curious. "Haru?" He questioned, watching as his Haru drew the petal away, bring the soft flower to his own lips with a mysterious smile.
The zodiac cursed cow's smile grew, "Yuki looks very nice with flowers in his hair."
The pale boy's cheeks tinted pink for a moment, only serving to widen Haru's smile before Yuki dismissed those words as he usually did, walking forward again with Haru just half a step behind him. "Don't say such strange things, Haru."
It only took a few more moments before they saw Hatori waiting for them patiently, trying his best to ignore a clinging Ayame who was flirting quite outrageously with a shameless Shigure.
"I think that spring is the best season of the year." Yuki said casually before they could reach the group, surprising Hatsuharu. "Don't you... Haru?"
Haru gave another of his mysterious and vague smiles. "Well, I happen to like winter the best. It must be the snow."
Yuki ducked his head slightly, not able to hide his smile.
