Wasabi Mashed Potatoes = Love

Apr 15, 2007 14:40

Last night's dinner at the Texas Embassy:

steamed artichokes with three kinds of dipping sauce (Thai peanut, curry mayo, hot mustard)
wasabi mashed potatoes!

As a Frenchman I knew long ago used to say in choked tones with tears streaming from his eyes, after taking a bite of wasabi-slathered sushi, "The pain is exquisite." I would never have thought of that combo on my own, but we went out to eat a few weeks ago and they came with the B.H.'s tuna. Now, of course, it had just a sense of the wasabi, for mere mortals. But when the B.H. decided to duplicate the recipe, he put in an ENTIRE TUBE of wasabi paste. He wept as he mashed. But they were, in fact, exquisite. And so easy: Boil potatoes and several whole cloves of garlic (to taste, of course). Add a little milk and margarine, and dump in as much wasabi as you want. Enjoy! As I was telling islandboy99, they seem gourmet but are so simple.
