My dissertation is nearly finished. People tell me I should "brag" a little, at least in the opening and conclusions, to showcase my minor contributions to the world through this thesis. I am happy to say though, that I have avoided any use of exclamation marks. One "!" makes all the difference between a sober remark from an adult scientist and a childish megalomaniacs' wild claims. :-)
