To be or not to be Catholic
Yikes its been a while.
I have grown since my last post. Not in terms of developing character or anything, more in terms of size and weight. Due to deliver our baby in mid-december so getting fairly, umm, rotund.
I was at a Catholic Christening on Sunday. Even though I am a "lapsed catholic" I had been thinking of getting my baby baptized in a Catholic Church. Since Sunday I am not so sure. I was considering a Catholic Christening simply because it is still the conventional thing to do here. For so many years being Irish meant being Catholic and Catholicism has played a significant role in shaping Irish culture and society. But that was then. in recent years Ireland has become more diverse. I think I will embrace this fact.
Being honest, I realize that I have too many problems with Catholicism to justify bringing my little one into the fold. Therefore I am now religion shopping. I would like my little one to have some sort of spiritual instruction. I am going to the Unitarian Church here in Dublin for service this Sunday to investigate other options.
