OKAY, so I was relishing the recent media bashing of skinny models. Then I read the interview with "skinny model" Erin O'Connor in today's Guardian and well, I've been schooled.
In the interview O'Connor describes how modeling gave her self-confidence and allowed her to take pride in her version of femininity, the version she was born with. She talks about being teased at school for her lankiness and and then discovering her own beauty, "Oh great! I'm not going to go out and buy a pair of tits'"
O'Connor is articulate and her interview made me think twice about beauty norms - an issue I thought I was open-minded about. As O'Connor puts it, "The problem with the press is that no one's a winner: thin women are disgusting and so are fat women. Yes, there's room for debate, but it's not always so simple."
