GAI and his C-Trap
The first season of Rap of China has produced dual champions, GAI and PG One. However since the finale, the champions set out for different paths, as far apart as heaven and earth.
But I am not going to write about their differences, I simply want to write about GAI and his music.
GAI is nicknamed unfriendly as Social GAI by fellow rappers and audience of the show Rap of China, because he has a song "Super Social", which he raps topless about gangster lives.
He raps in Sichuan Dialect, so the rappers and the audience say what he sings folk songs.
But the first time he caught my attention in Douban, is a verse of 4 lines, 虎山行.
一往無前虎山行
撥開雲霧見光明
夢裡花開牡丹亭
幻想成真歌舞昇平.
Among the several songs he sung in the show, the following are quite unique.
CuiJian's 苦行僧 combining with JiGong
倘若心无杂念 方能够修成正果
从前的匪徒现在也要斩妖除魔

To me, his songs are all coming back to the game of thousands of years old, words and rhythm. To play with the words freely like him, James Wong will very likely cheer for him.
