Well, K & P are finishing up their final few hours of their weeklong visit with me. K's up in the bedroom packing, while P's in the living room, having a little snooze. I'm sitting at the kitchen island, dreading the drive up to the airport because it's the end of a holiday weekend, and it also happens to be raining.
I will spare the details, but I will say that the week was an absolute triumph.
I got to introduce K & P to V (all of these initials are obnoxious, and I am sorry), and we had a nice little games night on Wednesday--even if K wasn't all that enthusiastic about it.
My brother and niece came down on Thursday for the Thanksgiving meal, and oh my goodness, it did my heart good... and I hope his, too, and my niece's. They've really been through it, the both of them, and I was so happy to give them a place to feel cared-for, and loved, and embraced. It broke my heart to find out that the past few years, they haven't been having family Thanksgiving--neither with his erstwhile, soon-to-be-ex-wife's family, nor with our stupidly broken family. My mother is somewhere in Canada (Toronto, I think?) with her husband, and my father and his wife haven't invited my brother or his family for Thanksgiving in years.
I wish I'd known. Neither my brother nor I needed to be by ourselves at all, on any Thanksgiving. I am setting the intention to never let this happen again.
The rest of my week off was spent relaxing and visiting with K & P. They wanted to go to the Apple Store at Christiana Mall on Black Friday--basically, a suicide mission, but there was some kind of deal they wanted to cash in on. And so, I took them. It was insanity.
We also went to Longwood Gardens... and, they were super nice and came along with me to my gig in Centerville on Saturday. And today, we went to mass up at the Episcopal church in Greenville. All in all, a really successful week! My heart is full. I am a happy Bean.
