How is it February already?

Sam and I stayed in town this past weekend.  On Saturday I had an AYW meeting at RPI, ate lunch in the RPI Union, and then went to help Sam at the new house.  I measured, cut and painted boards that fit into the mud room and will have hooks on them.  They look pretty good.  We are having a closet added to the front room so that it can be used as a second bedroom, and I have to say that is looking good too.

Saturday night I went over to my Volleyball teammate Katie's house for a party. Katie is also one of my HR managers at work, but we have been friends before she started working for GE.  So, Katie has a 16 year old sister who has Down Syndrome.  Her sister's classmates were getting a special Prom held for them, but because her sister wasn't a member of this special club, she couldn't go, even though a boy had asked her!  Katie felt really bad, so she decided to host a prom at her house for her sister!  It was mainly girls from the Volleyball team, plus some childhood friends.  We all had a lot of fun, dancing in her basement and doing youtube karaoke.  Her sister seemed really happy and she was so sweet.

Sunday Sam made breakfast, and then I went to a new yoga class.  I signed up for a one-week pass, but I don't think I will start using this studio.  They are really popular in this region. They have multiple studios, really strict sign up policies (you have to pay for the class ahead of time to reserve your spot!), strict timelines (if you don't show up 5 mins before class, they give your spot away) and the classes are really packed.  The good thing about them is that they have a lot of diverse offerings, and convienent locations.  The bad things are all the other stuff I mentioned.  I can't be tied down, man!  Especially in my yoga practice!

We watched the Super Bowl at T&A's house.  The kids watched with us until half time.  I made yummy Buffalo Chicken dip. Aaron made jerk chicken wings and pizza.  The commercials were ok, but pretty dull.  We all loved the Half Time show with Katy Perry and Missy Elliott. India Menzel sucked.  The game itself was very interesting and thrilling, even if the team I do not like (The Pats) won.

On Tuesday I volunteered to go to a Leadership Etiquette dinner at RPI (there is a fancy dinner in the Sage dining room, and one GE person sits at each table with the students.  There is a guy giving an etiquette presentation, and the students can network with us).  I was planning to leave early, but when I went to tell my boss why I was leaving, she asked me a bunch of questions, so I left a half hour late.  This wasn't too bad because I knew there was a half hour appetizer thing to start the event.  Of course, I had a choice which way to go home, and I made the wrong decision - there was a huge accident on Rt 7.  So, I got to the event about 45 minutes late, and they had already started dinner.  As soon as I find a seat at a table, what is the next thing the etiquette trainer talks about - being punctual!  Did you know that if you are going to be over 8 minutes late, you should contact your host to let them know??  I felt embarrassed, but just laughed about it with my table.

Our Volleyball team is going ok this year.  We have a large team (18 girls).  One of our teams played BB last year (a higher level), and some of them still want to play BB.  However, only 4 girls from that team returned this season, two of them are injured, and one more has a conflict and can't play in the final Regional tournament.  I wrote our captain a long letter explaining that I was concerned because there was talk of bringing on new girls to fill out a BB team.  Since we already have such a large team, this isn't fair to everyone else, especially those who are consistently making practice.  Luckily, my captain agreed, and thanked me for writing her.  She wants us to have two B teams this year too.

Bad news about Helene - she has one more week at the Rehab center, and her nurses don't think she is ready to go home yet.  So, my family is trying to find a rehabilitation home that she can go to, at least for a few months, but possibly forever.  I think Helene will be heartbroken that she can't live by herself at home anymore, and I wonder if she would have agreed to have the surgery, if she had known this.   I guess her nurses are concerned about her mobility, but also about her memory.  I have never seen her have memory issues, but they would probably be better at recognizing this than I am.  :-(  I think she will be moving to her new place on the 11th, and we will go down either that weekend or the one after it.

This weekend a bunch of us are going to see Rachel's play in Schenectady, and then I have a Volleyball tournament on Sunday.  It should be a good weekend!
