Long overdue engagement post!

Nov 10, 2012 22:20

For some reason, I've been trying to write this post for a long time, and just wanted to give it my full attention, rather than writing it at work like I normally do. So now I am on a plane writing it on my phone. I figure this is as good a time as any.

We got Engaged!!!!!!
Ok, all of you probably already knew that, but here is the story of how he asked me!

It happened Wednesday, October 3rd September 26th (oops!). Sam and I had been talking about getting married for a long time, and I had even shown him the website of rings that I liked. For like the past year we knew we wanted to eventually get married, so every so often I would say, "When are you going to ask me to marry you?" His answer was always something like, "Well, our parents haven't met yet", "I have to meet your uncles", "Your parents haven't met my dad." Each of those times, we then arranged for those things to happen. So, then my sister got engaged in mid-August. I was hoping to be engaged before her, but that's ok. Then, about a month later, my younger cousin got engaged too! After showing Sam their photos from that night, I asked again when he was going to ask me to marry him. His response was, "Well, lets go to Yom Kippur first," which was that Tuesday.

So Yom Kippur happened, and we went to the service with Rachel and her sister. It was nice to be there - that was my first time in a synagog!

Also, that Sunday, Sam had asked me what I was doing on Wednesday, and that he wanted to go out for a fancy meal. I thought that was a bit odd, but went with it. He picked out the Garlic Lovers Corner, a Mediterranean place near us.

I should stop here and say that I had thought about how I envisioned Sam asking me before, and I really couldn't picture how I wanted it to happen. He's a plain and simple guy, and not really into gifts or extravagance. I felt like if he tried to pull off some great plan, it just wouldn't be his style.

So anyway, Wednesday came, and I went to PT after work, and then came home and we went out to dinner. The GLC is in a strip mall, and it isn't the fanciest place, but they have good food. I got the lamb with orzo pasta, and I think Sam got the Gyro. Before the meal started, he gave a very sweet toast about me and how special our relationship was. It was really sweet. And a bit odd, as was going out to a fancy place on a Wednesday!

We headed home after dinner and I went into the house first. A minute later Sam came in and said "Have you looked at our Brussel sprouts lately? I think something's wrong with them. " I said "They look ok to me. Small, but they just need more sunlight." "No, there's something black on one of them," he replied. Now, this has been a year of disease and pests in our garden, so I was not happy to hear this. Still, I said "It's dark out there. I'll go look in the morning." He said "No, you should go look now, honey." At that point I realized something fishy was definitely up, and I had a suspicion what it was!!!!!! I headed to the garden with him behind me. When we got out there I said, "Show me what you see," and he pointed to a certain Brussel sprout plant and said, "Go look at that one, there's something black on it." So, I went over, and sure enough, there was a ring box hidden in the plant! I opened the box, and one of the rings I liked was in there! Then Sam got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, and I (of course) said Yes!!!! Then we hugged and kissed in the garden. It was very special and cute and slightly dorky, and just like him.

When we got inside we tried calling all our patents and siblings. No one was picking up. The first person that actually answered their phone was my grandpa. :-) I then talked to Abby, and Sam's dad and brother. Then I got my mom on the phone, but my dad was not with her, so I was mean and said, "Well call me back when you're together so I can tell you the big news!" Hahahaha! So, we got to tell both of them late that night. We actually didn't get ahold of Sam's mom until the next morning!

So now we are in the planning stages. We're aiming for a May 2014 wedding near Doylestown or Allentown, PA. Maybe Memorial Day weekend. Sam is going to Australia for work for a few months next year, and we're not 100% sure when he'll be back! Then my sister gets married at the start of September, and I want there to be done distance between the two weddings. I would rather be getting married earlier because I want to make sure my Grandpa is there, and I don't want to hold up the other things we want to do with our lives, but oh we'll. Right now we're considering two venues, but are looking at at least two more over Thanksgiving weekend. I want to book a place before the end of the year!

So, that's our story. I can honestly say we're both very happy. I feel like we are even closer now than we were before, and I look forward to being even closer when we're married! I can't wait to spend my life with him!!! <3
