iPod help!

My iPod shuffle is not working. I wanted to replace everything on it with some other stuff. This was the first time I tried to sync the iPod with this computer since it had been re-imaged. So, it gave me a warning that iTunes needed to erase all the old stuff to sync the iPod on this computer, and I said that was fine. Everything seemed to go well. When I plug in the iPod and look at it on iTunes I can see the new items that I put on it. However, when I plug in my headphones or plug it into my car jack, it just doesn't play! It blinks green and orange and then seems to just give up! Help! Is there a way I can just reset the whole device? Do I need to take it to the Apple store? If so, can I do that if I don't have the receipt on hand?
