Here are some other things that happened while I had no Int0rbuttz:
+ I made an awesome salad with our fresh organic lettuce and radishes from the CSA and also some corn and avocado. It was voted A+++ would nom again.
+ We got our second pickup from the
CSA, which was similar to last week's haul (radishes, kale, thing-that-is-related-to-Chinese-cabbage, lettuce, green onions) and also the lolmom got some delicious strawberries from the CSA's pick-your-own patch. I have been going nuts because I could not get to the Int0rbuttz and thus could not access the kale recipes I bookmarked. Also, there is a lot of stir-fry in our near future.
+ We finally got plants-it's too late in the season to start seeds, alas-and have an even larger and more expansive flowerpot farm than last year's. There are more herbs (thyme, caraway, rosemary, lavender, chives, dill, sage, and basil, and possibly something else which I can't remember); hopefully, this year's lavender won't meet the fate of last year's lavender (I was a lazy ass about potting it and it died and could not be revived). We're not doing cucumbers or beans again this year; I don't really go in for cucumbers and we didn't get much yield last year, and the beans were a fun experiment but didn't produce enough to make it worthwhile. We are, however, doing zucchini again and also yellow summer squash, and a shitton of tomatoes (two cherry varieties and a couple of full-size varieties, because I basically whined and cried until the lolmom agreed to buy a beefsteak plant). Also: a shitton of peppers (green, red, and yellow) and Japanese eggplant (I WILL GROW DELICIOUS EGGPLANT GODDAMMIT), which we hope will be a better choice than last year's conventional eggplant (which never turned dark and remained rock-hard and finally went bad). We may also go and get some strawberry plants, since we have a strawberry pot that has lain fallow for many moons and it would be fun to have a handful every now and then. So I'm sore as hell from spending most of Friday crouching and washing out pots and potting plants (I actually got everything we bought on Friday potted that day; sometimes I amaze me).
+ We went to brunch at the
Firefly on Sunday morning, which was awesome; being a Hoosier, I had biscuits and gravy, and we split an order of stuffed French toast. The lolmom had fried eggs and grits; the fried eggs were battered before being fried, and the lolmom thought this was something Paula Deen would come up with. God, we're so bad. It was worth it, though, and I didn't eat much else for the rest of the day except a couple of yogurts (hey, gotta take the meds somehow amirite).
+ I'm actually off this Saturday, so we're planning to a.) pick some strawberries and b.) go up to the
Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous that weekend, because we're geeks who have only talked about going up that weekend for like three years and never actually went. I am not looking forward to picking strawberries, not because I dislike berries or don't want to have fresh local ones or don't give a shit about the lolmom's famous jam, but because I am old and fat and dread bending and crouching to pick them. Also, I dread chasing the lolmom and going SUNSCREEN! IT'S THE KIND YOU'RE NOT ALLERGIC TO SO YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE, DO NOT COME CRYING TO ME WHEN YOU BURN. (No, there has been no role reversal as we've aged. What makes you think that?)
+
pixelation tasered me because I got drunk and crashed her wedding on Sunday. I don't know how she managed to hide a taser in that dress, but she did. OMG IT BURNT AND STUNG IT WAS ONLY A JOKE. (...This one may be a lie.)
+ I have been watching the Shôgun miniseries and have to date drawn several conclusions:
a.) Most of the white actors suffer from Big Late '70s/Early '80s Hair. Seriously, some of the feathering makes me cringe. On the other hand, a lot of the Japanese cast suffers from Enormous Sideburns, which are not completely authentic for the period judging by a lot of the artistic reference I've seen, but I freely admit that I may be mistaken on this point.
b.) Toshiro Mifune was already an old man when he made this (early sixties or thereabouts) but nonetheless A++++ WOULD TOTALLY HAVE HIS BABIES. I spent the entire first 60-90 minutes going, "C'mon, boyfriend. Boyfriend! BOYFRIEND! I don't give a shit about all this jazz with the Jesuits and the Portuguese rudders! I'm only watching this for the samurai and my imaginary boyfriend!" And then when the story FINALLY got to the point with Toshiro Mifune, I was like "EEEEEEEEEEE GOD HE WAS A FOXY OLD MAN" and ovulating all over the couch. I think I managed to clean most of that up.
b1.) I guess there's no sense in hotly denying a pretend relationship, is there. H only left about 3 and a half, 4 months ago, and I am not ready to mentally break up with Toshiro Mifune yet.
c.) I rather suspect Shôgun is responsible for the first wave of weeaboos, since it was how a lot of us got into samurai and whatnot. (In my case, it started with being allowed to see the miniseries when it was re-run while I was a kid, and then about 10 years later or so Yoshikawa Eiji finished the job.) I guess I should hotly deny being a weeaboo, on account of I don't think I'm Japanese or sprinkle fangirlisms throughout English conversation, and also I think the world is a better place today because the Axis powers lost WWII and I have interests that are largely or totally unrelated to Japan, but I don't have it in me. Also, I kind of like weeaboos even though they irritate me; it's sort of like my compulsive need to poke cicada shells with a stick.
+ ALSO: Five hours tonight and then I'm off for two days! HOORAY.
