Samurai Flicks: Helping Lee Cope Since 2000 Or So
I saw Ronin Gai today; the second word is pronounced "guy", in case uigenna felt compelled to make a smart remark, as occasionally happens. XD This was the 1980s one, not the original one from back in the day, but still, it was of the pwn. The fight scenes were fabulous and there was actually an ending that someone besides me would recognize as happy (the traditional ending to a samurai film is typically on the order of EVERYBODY DIES).

Also, I present you with a meme ganked from daturabelle, which I thought might be of use to the new additions to the flist, or to anyone else who's dying of curiosity (all 1.3 of you). The boilerplate:
You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think, "Wait a minute. Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.
1.) First name: Lee. It's not my full name, which is a deep dark secret.
2.) Age: I'll be 28 in a couple of weeks. God, I'm old.
3.) Location: Greetings from beautiful southwestern Indiana, a scant few miles from the Illinois line and almost right on the Kentucky line! I live about 20 miles off from Evansville, which is as close as we have to a major metropolitan area in this part of the state.
4.) Occupation: Unemployed at the moment, albeit actively seeking work. When I work, I am traditionally an abstractor (I do real-estate title work), though I have done other things (like call-centering) in the name of having a job. I'm not necessarily soliciting additional land-title work, and am actually trying to get away from it for a variety of reasons, but I'll spare you my soapbox.
5.) Partner: Technically, I don't have one. I do, however, have a very close male friend (referred to as H); we're interested in each other, but aren't really doing anything about that. (There's a reason for this, so nobody comment with Advice For The Lovelorn.) It may or may not go somewhere in the future. I'm not bothered either way. That said, until such time as H and I either give up and start going out or give up and start seeing other people, you should consider that I am NOT AVAILABLE (on the off chance that you were here for the sweet, sweet l33 lovin', which consists of me behaving like a complete tool to my partner half the time).
6.) Kids: Don't have, don't want, don't like, not open to discussion or debate, thx.
7.) Brothers/Sisters: I have a younger sister, referred to as X-chan. X-chan is the long-prophesied Starchild of Cholula, who will bring the planets into harmony or something, at least if she ever stops Netflixing the oeuvre of Jean-Claude van Damme long enough to fulfill her cosmic destiny. She lives in Arizona, so I don't get to see her very often, but we talk regularly. We've always been close, and I'd be friends with her even if she wasn't related to me.
8.) Pets: Callice, the Ferocious Parti-Coloured Beast! I have no pictures, on account of I've lost the cord that hooks the digicam up to the computer, but if you imagine an enormous, self-satisfied calico cat with green eyes and white feet, you won't be far wrong. Callice was a shelter cat who had never been a pet before she adopted me (I was petting her, so was clearly trustworthy, and therefore was granted the signal favor of having my shoulders sat on and my neck curled around); she is probably the happiest and most amiable of all the cats we've had, and she purrs almost constantly. (I'm not sure whether this is genuine happiness or her thinking, "Ha ha ha ha, I evolved this soft coat of fur and have cunningly used it to con you into feeding and petting me.")

a.) I am unemployed and am looking for work in two cities. See below for more on this.
b.) I have been trying to move back to Bloomington, where I went to university and which is a much more congenial city for me, for about the past year. It has, to date, been unsuccessful. I am notoriously pigheaded and really do not give a shit, because I want this and I am going to have it.
c.) Um, I'm watching a lot of samurai movies right now?
10.) Where and for what did you go to school?
I spent most of my childhood being jerked hither, thither and yon about the US. In this manner, I attended three elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools. Most of it was pretty forgettable. I went to university at IU in Bloomington, same as my father before me, where I read Classics. Hurrah! I'm unemployable!
11.) Parents: I have a lolmom, on whom I am codependent. Given that I'm living with her at present (the past few years have been a comedy of errors and some bad decision-making on my part), it's a good thing we're friends. I have a father, to whom I don't talk very much; that's a long, tedious story, though, and I used to not talk to him at all, so I guess progress is being made.
12.) Who are some of your closest friends?
Most of my close friends are either RL friendships that have become online friendships because somebody moved, or are strictly Int0rbuttz friendships. This is not a comprehensive list; however, here are some of the dramatis personae. But if you think you should be on here, remind me and I'll edit this post accordingly. a.) H. H and I fit together as friends, in the sense that there's not that much difference, functionally speaking, between us and seventeen-year-old boys. We have a lot in common, and we get along like a house on fire.
b.) Joy. Joy and I are the token single abstractors, and she's assumed kind of a mentrix role for me in the past couple of years. I need to call her, actually.
c.) augustuscaesar. I have dramatically failed at marrying Tara, though I will continue to soldier on in the face of certain defeat (ourloveissodoomed). Fortunately, she's pretty sanguine about the fact that I have many true loves as opposed to just one.
d.) dethorats. Price and I grew up together, no doubt mutually warping each other with our corrupting influence. This pretty much tells you everything you need to know.
e.) duokinneas. Talyn is my bouncy fluffy sparkly femmy shoujo seahorse ukelette princess and I love her a really whole lot. There would be more about this if I could write it without sounding like some sort of pansy-ass faggot. Suffice it to say that I love Talyn like I love samurai.
f.) forgottensanity. Cat is made of awesome and win, and also of marzipan. Her major export is Mary Sues. Don't fuck with her othello cake, or she'll CUT YOU.
g.) uigenna. We have mutual ADD, and insane fun on AIM when anybody remembers to sign on. If you saw the way we talk to each other online, you'd be shocked to learn that we are, in fact, relatively intelligent human beings.
h.) zyphryus. Lyd and I are friends from university, whence I took the land-title world by storm and Lyd became the world's most overqualified waitress. Those of you who long to join an art cult should be aware that she is taking applications for the position of Minion (entry-level).
