Clovis Rodeo

Apr 28, 2007 08:00

I'm in Fresno at the annual gathering for the Clovis Rodeo.  I got here a ilttle early to help Yasmin's mom get the place set up for about 20 visitors.  She prepares all week, smoking meats and shopping and organizing.

We've been doing this since 1993, and it's good to see this year's assortment of guests.  There have been a lot of changes in hte household in that time: baby brothers have gotten out of high school, went to Yale or Dartmouth, had kids; Gail and husband split up; Yasmin brought a husband into the fold for a few years; grandmother died.  Fidel the poodle is now an elder statesman.  He doesn't hate my ankles now that my dog Woby is gone.

After sweeping the patio and getting the outdoor furniture ready, I took a good nap and had a nice swim.  Guests showed up after 7 and we started eating, which is the key event of the weekend, along with rodeo this afternoon and salsa dancing tonight.
