It's a slightly smaller devastation but over in Fargo at Minn-Kota PAAWS, the spay neuter clinic my friend runs, their mascot Hoss has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. The lady from the Poll County Humane Society brought in several dogs and cats to PAAWS to be speutered even though Monday was not generally a surgery day. Afterwards she took me and Dr G back to Mom's for a late lunch. I tried not to eat very much as I was taking CM and the Prof out to dinner that night. Wednesday was a cat day at PAAWS. Both vets and the vet tech were there as individuals brought in cats and Teresa of WE R Furr Feline Rescue brought in several cats to be spayed and neutered and a small kitten named Yoda:

On Sunday we drove into Minnesota to visit Lake Itasca. It took about 2 hours to drive there and once there we went hiking a bit before going to the stream that theoretically marks the start of the Mississippi. I'm rather pleased that though I have owlish tendencies, if I get my 7 to 8 hours of sleep, I can get up early and still be reasonably functional as I've been getting up early since Tuesday. Well I arrived safely in Fargo after a basically uneventful trip. My friend CM met me at the airport and we went directly to Minn-Kota PAAWS as it was Dog Day Tuesday and the vet was busy spaying and neutering dogs. I came home last Thursday and now my time in Fargo seems like a wonderful dream. The Sunday before I left we attended a meeting of the Red River Freethinkers. The speaker has a proposition to be voted on in November to legalize medical marijuana; I'm certainly in favor of that and hope they succeed in getting it passed. Yesterday PAAWS speutered 23 cats with me assisting Dr G with the spaying while one of the vet-techs handled the neutering. We arrived before 8 and left around 4:30. On the way home we stopped at Papa Murphy's and ordered a couple of pizzas including my favorite - chicken and artichoke which is not something I've come across in NYC ( Read more... )

Tuesday we ran a zillion (slight exageration) errands to get ready for Summerfest. It all went smoothly and we fed about 80 Democrats. There were several interesting speakers who are running for local offices and hopefully they will win in November.
