Oy vey. When my friend died her husband said to me that of all his friends his age (he was 85) he was the healthiest. Three weeks after his wife's death he complained about a tummy ache and went to a hospital. He came home a few days later telling me that he had a doctor's appointment on the 10th and would find out what was wrong. Unfortunately he developed so much pain that last Thursday he had to go by ambulance back to the hospital. He died there yesterday of a heart attack but he'd been found to have a large amount of metastatic cancer. Their son is only 20 years old and entered Dartmouth last month. He is devastated as am I and a mutual friend. Bill went to doctors many times over the years and I find it so hard to believe that the cancer went unnoticed. The son has an adult half-sister who lives in Washington DC and will help him as she now is the executor of both her father's will and her step-mother's so the boy won't have any financial worries but losing both parents in a little over 5 weeks must be so heartbreaking and difficult to deal with. I will help as much as I can as will his half-sister and her family and friends of his parents. I truly find it so hard to believe this tragedy has happened.
ETA: I don't know if we'll have the memorial service on the 28th or whether it will be for both of them or if it now will be on a different day *sigh*
