We are champions, say we are champions!

While I’m sitting here waiting for lunchtime, I thought I’d post a bit of a rundown of yesterday’s marvellous events… Ange will follow with photos no doubt, but it was a pretty amazing day!

My work people, Bebe and I met up for a pre-grand final brunch in Brunswick St, before heading to Crown for cocktails (at this stage is was about 1:00 - is that too early for cocktails?) well, obviously the bartenders at the Pub at Crown thought so, because it took them the best part of 40 minutes to make three cocktails, including a practice one that went horribly wrong. Well, to our delight, the cocktails were on the house - now they may have been bad (I had a frozen margarita that was like a tequila slurpee - yowser!) but free cocktails are free cocktails.

Well, that was the beginning of our day on Kerry Packer (may he rest in peace). We wandered the gaming room for a few minutes and I (as per usual) hit the pokies… Mark and Tony found me a machine with soccer balls on it, that should have brought us luck - and luck it did! A couple of spins later, I ended up with $330 in my pocket… from a $5 investment! It was hilarious really… us, fuelled on cocktails were in hysterics as the money ticked over and there was a crowd of angry Asian gamblers ready to eat me for lunch!

From there, it was time for a short walk that felt like a marathon in the 35+ heat where we ended up at the Royal Melbourne Hotel for stale chips and drinks (again on Kerry - my winnings were going to good use!) and a few rounds of Who Wants to be a Millionaire on the computerised game in the corner of the pub - fun for all, that’s for sure!

The game itself was pretty amazing, but not as tense as a grand final should be - by 20 minutes in the win was almost sealed up and from then we just laughed and marvelled in the grace and athleticism of Archie Thompson! Interesting times though, being sandwiched in by Dames and Zo and Salv and his lady Sara.

Still, after the game we headed back to Crown to change shoes and get into slutty outfits (well, not Bebe and I, but nat and her mates) and then to Port Melbourne (wtf?) to some bar called Ocean Blue. NOTE: Port Melbourne is too far from home for it to be fun. Needless to say, the place was packed when we got there and we couldn’t get in!

Drinks at Southgate, followed by some useless messaging from Dames left Ange and I at Spencer St, almost 14 hours after we started our adventure. Definitely time for a taxi and bed.

Except I got the taxi driver from hell. He checked the melways for Ivanhoe when I got in the cab (bad sign 1), he talked to me the whole way home about useless shit (bad sign 2), he drove at 40ks in a 70 zone (bad sign three), he drove all the way into my driveway and refused to take a $2 tip (bad sign four). All in all, a shocking ride!

Wow, that turned out rather long… it was certainly a day to remember… and one we’ve been waiting for for months! Now, bring on the Victory BBQ on Thursday and then the start of the AFL season… it just never stops!
