I wanted to do a mini review of The Dark Knight Rises here but as always, I don't believe in spoiling the movie. Then of course tragedy struck in Denver.
My heart goes out to the 14 people shot dead and the 50 people injured in the horrific murder in the cinema. One of the few places that is still safe in this day and age is the cinema. Or so, you'd think. May they rest in peace, or recover soon. The psychological scars will haunt them for life.
Onto the movie:
It's slow to start, and it's long too because it's setting up ground work for what is to follow later. It builds up around the middle, and includes an iconic scene that everyone was waiting for, lots of confusing stuff that doesn't make sense until the end AND and ending that nearly had my pants down near my ankles ready to explode into what I can only call a 'fanwank frenzy'.
It's so good in like an Inception sort of way. It can seem clunky in places though, but most of it makes so much sense at the end. It wraps up the trilogy nicely and highlights the direction everything was heading towards. Bane's voice is silly too.
If you are looking for comparisons to The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker, then you will be disappointed as Bane is a completely different character.
Check it out. Maybe not a film for those no interest in the Batman franchise, but it does complete the story.
The next review: Red State.
