a long long time ago..

I have a geology exam tomorrow. I am so nervous. I missed the last exam because I wasnt feeling well. And to be quite honest, I havent been feeling any better this morning. Maybe there is a sneaky relation to the week I have my geology exam and me falling ill. Oh well, I must do well on this one because my folks have been emailing me with the usual inquiries on academics. uffff.

Oh my God. I just received an email from my ex-boyfriend. Hmm. He's a very strange charactar. I was in "love" with him for the longest time. He was one of those kinds whom you'd think were quiet and studious if you didnt know them well. But once you were part of the inner circle, he was one whirlwind of a personality. In fact, he was the one who introduced to me Formula 1. I must admit I always admired him for a really long time. I never told him how I felt, though everyone around me knew I really liked him. And ofcourse, he found out too. And then he told me he cared about me too. And so, we were together. But only for a month. One night, while I was talking to him on the phone and we were just discussing sweet nothings, this voice in my head spoke up and said, "Oh my God, he sounds so annoying." I shook my head in amazement. This sudden realization that the person I had been so fond of had the most unpleasant voice was rather bizarre. Had I been so lost in his beautiful brown eyes, that I had never heard his voice? Anyway, it was all downhill from there. Five minutes after that cerebral proclamation, I told him I suddenly didnt want to talk to him, and that also, I wasnt sure if I wanted to "be" with him anymore. That obviously left him very confused, and the next day he confronted me about it. I told him as it was. I didnt know where my feelings for him had unexpectedly evaporated. He didnt mean what he had meant to me a month ago. I was sorry I was putting him through this. But I really could not be with him anymore, and he couldnt expect me to ignore that and pretend along just so that I didnt hurt him.
Ofcourse, that was the least diplomatic thing to say, and he was raging mad at me. I was glad it was nearing his senior year examinations and that I did not have to see him, or his friends, at school everyday (they get a number of holidays to prepare for a month-long of examinations conducted by the National Board of education). But he kept calling, asking me what went wrong. And I always felt awful, because try as I would to comprehend what happened that night, I couldnt quite explain it. I told him we'll always be friends. And that kept him happy for a while.
At the same time, all my friends gave me hell for breaking up with him. They all felt I had been extremely selfish, and completely thoughtless in how I treated him. My best friend (who was male) decided I just liked to torture men because I had these "crazy feminist" ideas. It was awful.
Anyhow, this story makes me seem like the villain right? But oh, my drama with him doesnt end there. A few months later he became very friendly with my best friend (who at that time was in MD). They talked online A LOT...and one day I get an email from him saying that he really liked me friend. OH MY GOD. I flipped. Was he insane or something? He barely even knew the girl in real life. He had met her ONCE. And the only reason he even had her email address was because I gave it to him when we were "together". Anyhow, he decided that she reciprocated his feelings, and well, I knew that wasnt true because she was interested in someone else. But oh, then he pursued her, sent her random emails. And she wasnt sure what to do, because she felt like she had led him on. So I stepped in, decided to be the bitch, and basically barked him off of her. And he was like, oh you dont care about others, bla bla bla, you dont know what was going on between her and me, doesnt look like you two are as close as you make it out..bla bla bla. So basically we had a war over email and phone. And at the end of that we stopped talking. For four months. And then it was time for me to leave for the States, and he shows up again.
He emails me saying, congrats, I am so happy you're going, bla bla bla, keep in touch. Oh whatever. I ignore his emails. But even after I get here, he keeps sending these occassional emails, which I continue to ignore. I wonder, how thick-skinned is he? Did he not get the message?
And then one day this last November, I sat in my room alone on a cold night. I was extremely homesick, and it was nearing Diwali, and well, no one really celebrates Diwali like it should be here. And then out of the blue, in my inbox is an e-greeting from him, wishing me a Happy Diwali. And so, after a year and a half of ignoring him, I finally replied. I told him how his greeting lifted my spirits and made my day. And ofcourse, after that he never stopped emailing.

I have always wondered how some people can be so persistent. What is in store for him? I know he doesnt like me anymore, and even if he did, I dont, and I'm too far to even consider getting back with him. Why do some people never leave you? And since I have been wondering about the cosmic purposes of certain people and events in our life, I wonder, why HE (however begrudgingly so) is still a part of my life.

And oh, if you were wondering what the email was about, well, he sent me a birthday card that I never checked on my birthday, but decided to view yesterday, but obviously, it had expired since the 30 day period had passed. So I just sent him a thank you mail and apologised for not viewing the card earlier. He replied saying, no worries, nice to hear from you, you should keep in touch, lots of love __ .

He never fails to amaze me.
