Watching the fall-out from the new Tumblr purge is quite interesting, because it feels very different than Strikethrough did. I don't like or care about Tumblr as much as I did LJ, so that's part of it - I had so much more invested with LJ (literally, since I had a paid account) and also had joined when it was small and new-ish so it didn't feel so corporate. Tumblr is more obviously corporate, or was when I joined, so it feels now like it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Fandom can rage all it wants, but corporations don't like hosting our porn for free, and they like it even less when there's a risk they might actually lose money from it.
Talking to friends about alternatives last night, someone mentioned the lack of a reblog function on DW being a big negative and it actually made me realise I don't like the reblog model of social media. Being on tumblr (and twitter) can just mean endlessly reblogging material other people have created and that's 90% of what I do on them. On LJ, I spent way more time creating, in part because I had to - if I wanted something on my journal, I had to make it myself. I miss that, and despite not having used it long I'm already tired of the tumblr model of sharing consumption rather producing.
To which end, suggestions please about things for me to post about? Serious or silly, I don't mind, I just need motivation. Oh, and if anyone knows were I can find decent icons, especially Doctor Who, that would be much appreciated.
