It's about time for another update on what is new with me.

Of course, there is nothing particularly new with me, because I have been doing basically the same thing for the last three years. THREE YEARS. Full-time work. Part-to-full-time school. Gym. Church. And an otherwise underwhelming social life.

Work continues, I have nothing much new to say on that front. If you read my posts from a year or so ago, you will know that I am a huge proponent of having a clean and orderly office. My department will likely be moving to another area in a few months, so we are in the process of doing a huge clean-up of our stuff, so we don't have as much stuff to move. I still can't believe that in this day and age we have so much STUFF.

School continues, I have slightly more to say on that front. I have finished 12 of 15 courses. The pass notice from my marker in the 12th course had my name was spelled incorrectly: JEFFINFER. That level of attention to detail is not comforting. The current course is called Issues in Professional Practice. Basically, it is a series of case analyses from the perspective of an accountant in professional practice (audit, consultancy, etc.). I have to write about 5 graded cases, including a group case study, plus several online discussions and some multiple choice problem sets. If I do well on all the key competencies, I qualify to write the exam at the end of November.

Gym continues. I am still trying to make it there three times each week, although this week was only once, partly due to school, and partly due to the gym being closed all weekend. Fail. I was very unhealthy in the spring, and it really affected my outlook, so I have resolved not to let that happen again this fall. We'll see how long I last. I've been booking personal training as a motivator to keep me going at least twice a week - once with the trainer, and a second time so I don't embarrass myself in front of the trainer.

Home church is starting up again, and we have a new group this year. It's a little closer to home, but my favourite intellectuals have gone elsewhere, so I'm a little concerned that the discussion will be less stimulating. Hopefully we'll get some new people who surprise me.

On the social life front, there is not a whole lot to report. George took me to two TIFF films. One was about David Geffen, and the other was about the making of Michael Jackson's Bad. I didn't know much about Geffen's story, and since he is one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry, it was fascinating to hear how he got there. He attended the screening and did a Q&A after, which was great. Michael Jackson did not attend the screening (of course), but the director, Spike Lee, was there for the Q&A. The only other two interesting social events on my calendar involved a work golf day, where I won the prize for worst golfer (woo!), and Corey and Ali's alt-country gig at C'est What earlier this week. I stayed out until about midnight, which is CRAZY.
