Hey I'm really sorry to hear the bad news, but just think of what it is compared to the bigger picture. One more year out of your life... it seems like a lot of time, but if you live to be 80 you still have 60 years ahead of you, and at some point it will be a distant memory.
About the contacts - I was the same way too when I first got mine in high school. I never wore glasses before so I pretty much just walked around blind before that so I didn't really have a choice because the glasses took awhile to order and I never wore them anyway. But a little trick... you have to really psych yourself out. Lean really closely into the mirror, sit on the sink if you can (I do that every day haha) and open your eye really wide, pull down on your lower lid and look at it and think of it as you would if it wasn't your own. Really get the contact and your finger wet before you put it in, and when you do slide it in up towards where it needs to go, still telling yourself that you're just touching something else which is easy to do when you're so zoomed in on it. Blink... and it should be ok. It takes a few tries, it took me months to get them right in and out and some mornings it took me a half hour to do in the beginning! But it's worth it just keep at it.
