I was googling through the internet and stopped to read an article entitled Fearlessly Feminine: A letter from Christian Guys. (For the record, I was on headcovering sites looking for something that would look nice and keep hair out of my face - and food - without resorting back to my standard ponytail). The article was basically stating that while females are aroused mainly through touch, guys are aroused by sight. The article was stating that females should dress modestly in order for guys to avoid being tempted by the mere sight of female flesh.
The article wasn't as fascinating as the comments which became addictive for me to read. One of the comments absolutely made me want to tear my hair out.
"...Women and girls should take full responsibility for any untoward thoughts that men may have about them. They need to be careful to keep fully covered; not just their midriff area, but also their neck, arms, and legs. Clothing should not only be fashioned to completely cover, but also be loose enough to fully disguise even the feminine shape or form. Bathing suits should always be avoided and even in summer, one should wear long sleeves. In some cases, hair should be wrapped up in scarves or snoods, and should never be allowed to be loose for the view of men.
Everyone knows that men are aroused by even the mere sight of loose hair. We can't blame them or expect them to control themselves. It is their nature and we ladies are responsible for helping men and boys to control their nature.
We ladies need to realize that everytime a man is aroused by the sight of our bodies, we are responsible for tempting him to sin. To remove this temptation, we need to fully cover ourselves. It is fully our own fault if we have not covered up..."
I wasn't sure what surprised me more...the comment itself or the fact that it appears to be written by someone who is female. I have many friends who are dresses-only (and in fact I'm trying to completely convert to dresses only myself) and several who cover their head. Modest dress is not a new thought for me. However, I do take issue with the comment that "We can't blame them or expect them to control themselves. It is their nature..." . Really? So the sight of a female with long uncovered hair and a short sleeve shirt will turn a man into a drooling, groping fool and somehow we are to blame? I find that offensive as a female and I would like to think that most of the males I know would be offended as well.
However, for the sake of expanding my mind, I would love to hear from the guys on my f-list (and other females of course). For clarification of the article, here's the link...
