Lazy Weekend Alone

Feb 07, 2011 12:22

Friday was a snow ... er, ice day. Lynn ended up calling in to use a vacation day as it would have taken him an hour or so to get all the ice off his car. An hour later work called him with a general announcement that the campus was closed and everybody was to stay home. So we curled up in bed and snuggled. Later in the day we played a bit of Champions of Norath on the PS2.

We were supposed to have Miss Kid this weekend but with the roads being icy and both of us trying to recover from this chest crud that hit us we decided that it'd be better for her to stay with her mother. School had been canceled as of Thursday afternoon and her mother was working from home so they were safe there too. Miss Kid had asked about staying the night Thursday night and then an hour later changed her mind and just wanted to stay an hour later. I nixed that idea since the roads were already bad and would only get worse the later in the night it got. Friday when Lynn called to say that it was better to let her stay with her mother Miss Kid asked if she had stayed the night would she have been allowed to just stay with us for the weekend. Considering it was our weekend to have her and she would have already been here ... there would have been no point in being out on the road to drive her anywhere. It was her choice though and she said that if she went home she'd actually have some time with her mother. Given her game activity on FB this weekend though ... looks like she had plenty of time on the computer.

Saturday the roads were clear and we were feeling a bit better. We gathered up our various gift cards and decided to do a bit of shopping, slowly and at our own pace. We hit up Yarns to Ewe and thanks to my Christmas gift card from them I walked out with 3 sets of circular needles, sizes 0, 1, and 2 to do socks on, and I still have almost $3 in store credit left! Then we went to Michaels to see if they perhaps had the yarn I needed for meowvatar 's gloves. No luck but I did pick up the yarn for the school colors scarf I'm going to do for the silent auction up at Miss Kid's school. We stopped and wondered around Barnes & Nobel for a bit since we both had gift cards for them. I picked up a book by cmpriest , Bloodshot!!  This coupled with finding Palimpsest by yuki_onna just after Christmas means that I have novels from 2 out of 3 of the authors that I read here on a regular basis! *glee* By then we were both feeling rather worn down and ready for a bit of a break. We hit up Burger King and got burgers thanks to another coupon. The food and sitting down did both of us a world of good. Then we were ready to hit the grocery store. We got everything we needed there and headed home. Of course it was then that I remembered JoAnn's close by us and asked about checking there for the yarn I needed. I typically don't like them for much of anything other than sewing stuffs but I was in luck! They had the exact colorway I was looking for so I'll be able to start gloves for Miss meowvatar very soon!

Back at home we got everything put away and welcomed a friend in who'd called us earlier that day. He's had a bad week and needed somebody to chat with so, given that the meal we had planned was going to produce a lot of food, we suggested he join us for dinner. I fixed up a box of Ghirardelli brownies before starting on dinner. I tossed some chicken breasts into a skillet with roasted raspberry chipotle sauce and started up some water boiling for the tomato basil pasta we had. The pasta was topped with an Alfredo sauce that had grilled artichokes in it and joined some green beans on the plate beside the chicken as well as some breadsticks. Lynn fixed up a salad to join it with some mushrooms, shredded cheese, bacon, and fresh mozzarella sprinkled over it. Foodgasm!

Sunday was a dead day. Lynn left once to pick up some TP and to put gas in the car since we'd forgotten the day before and I cast on for a pair of socks that I've been looking forward to doing; 2 socks at one time on 1 circular needle. It's a little tricky but pretty easy once you remember to change balls of yarn in between socks. When Lynn got home we snuggled some more before taking a long hot shower together. Dinner that night was some mushrooms sauteed in a bit of olive oil infused with bay leaves and various other herbs. Then I added some of the pasta sauce from the night before and tossed in a couple of bone in chicken breasts. I heated up some leftover pasta from a couple night back, farfalle pasta with a red sauce and some blue cheese bits tossed in as well. Lynn made another salad and I sliced up a bit of Moroccan Olive bread to go with it all. More Foodgasm!

It was really nice to have a weekend of relaxation for just the two of us. We haven't had a weekend off since September or so. I think we both really needed it, both for physical health as well as for mental and emotional. It was a chance for both of us to just be and relax into each other. I don't mind having Miss Kid around but there's no sleeping in or spending the day under the covers when she's with us. Sometimes it's nice to change up the routine a bit.
