Weekend Report - The Pain Edition

Jan 10, 2011 07:22

This past weekend was a very quiet weekend, once I got the whimpering out of the way.

Apparently I decided my foot needed piercing. Friday night I got up to welcome Lynn home and was stopped short by some extraordinary pain. My brain exploded with all sorts of colorful language that I actually managed to keep inside as Miss Kid was sitting right beside me. At some point my beloved cable needle had fallen onto the floor and I managed to overlook it. I'd come home and kicked off my shoes as is customary for me. When I got up to hug Lynn and check on dinner it slid through my sock and right between the second and third toes on my left foot. Once I realized what I'd done it didn't hurt, other than a slight throb. I sat down and pulled it out before stripping off my sock. Yep, a nice round hole right between my toes that didn't bleed until I squeezed around it a couple times. I washed it off, slapped a band aid on it and hobbled off to check dinner.

Miss Kid and I had a talk about different ways people deal with pain. She was impressed that I took care of it and moved on. I acknowledged that it hurt, did what I could to fix it, and then went on to handle the rest of what I needed doing. She admitted that when she gets any sort of pain she makes a big deal out of it, no matter how little it is, because that's all that she's ever seen somebody do. I'm reminded of the time I was riding my scooter up and down the sidewalk and managed to go flying off it. I must have been about 8 or 9 at the time, about Miss Kid's age. I picked my scooter up, shooting a glare at the scooter for catching my foot and causing me to go down. I walked back to the house, used the garden hose out front to rinse off my knees which had been scrapped up in the fall. I didn't see anything terribly wrong so I went back to riding. No big deal. Later, when I went into the house Nanny suggested I use some hydrogen peroxide on it, after making sure I hadn't hit my head or anything. It was cool to watch it bubble up even if there was a bit of a sting.

Saturday we did a whole lot of nothing. My foot felt heavily bruised on the inside, mostly on the top, so I wasn't all that interested in doing much if I didn't have to. We sat at home and just had a quiet day watching Naruto, knitting, and working on game stuff for OwlCon. Sunday we went to the grocery store but other than that it was a quiet day too.

The foot is healing up pretty quickly. It's actually a bit impressive as I can see the flesh growing closed again. It still hurts quite a bit though, any time my toes flex too far in one direction or the other. Walking yesterday was painful. I'm sure kneeling and crouching down all day to shelves books will be interesting.

I hope you had a good weekend with less pain involved.
