Down on the corner, out in the street...

Well, eldest is in the US of A, preparing to compete tomorrow and Saturday.

Boss is back from the US, wanting to go back and spend our winters there.

Sanity will hopefully start to return a little.

Watched two movies this week that I've been waiting to see for ages, Brokeback Mountain and Flightplan.

Loved 'em both.

Flightplan (gift from a wonderful friend! *hugs ullman_79*) arrived on my birthday, and eldest was thrilled as she's seen it twice and was desperate to talk to me about it. She knows how much I hate spoilers and had managed to restrain herself from talking about it. Finally watched it and as usual Jodie did a great job. As did Peter Sarsgaard, and the rest of the cast, including that Bean bloke. *g*

SPOILERS - you have been warned.
I was pretty chuffed when I kept asking myself, when the doubt started about her daughter, 'where's her coffin if she died'. And as the daughter drew the heart on the window I thought 'That's going to have some relevance later, though it could always have been drawn by the mother.'

And then one night this week met up with elbatsnud and watched Brokeback Mountain - and I (we) adored it. Not only visually beautiful, but also a real example of pure, unadulterated storytelling. Yes I adore movies that use special effects well, but BBM was devoid of all that, just using the actors and natural scenery to portray a very sad and moving story. And wow, did Heath deserve that Oscar nomination or what?? Though the other two who stick out in my mind as having put in performances that spoke volumes with just their expressions were Alma and Jack's mother. And Jack's wife, but those first two were just fabulous.

I'm so glad I managed to avoid all spoilers, and I thank all those who did put up spoiler warnings and give me the chance to see it without knowing what was going to happen. Though a warning about needing a box of tissues nearby woulda been kinda handy! *g* I think the waterworks started around about the last scene at the river and basically didn't stop till after the credits had rolled through. And many thanks to J for the chance to enjoy and share thoughts on it. I LOVE the internet at times like that! *g*

So, am watching Don't Say A Word tomorrow night, with ullman_79 and am looking forward to that!

So apart from that am working on getting the lagging tags up to date, thanks to those who've been hanging in there!

Till later...
