'Twas the night before last, and I couldn't go to sleep, so I succumbed to the whim of creating an Instagram. I don't expect to be very active myself, and so far it only has my mushroom pic, a lizard on my back patio rug, and pics of a few lunches and dinners. Really boring. But anyway, if you are are also bored and have an Instagram,
here is mine.
And finally, I organized the pics of our holiday decorations! First Christmas in the new place, and for the first time ever, we had room for two trees. Since there was a lot of sadness this year, I wanted to make sure that this year was particularly festive for the family. Click the pics to take a closer look.
The sitting room tree with all our old ornaments. We got them from all over the place (I think a few even came from Rite Aid) and over many years. Yes, that is the Hallmark Channel Yule Log on the TV. I liked watching the kitties and puppies, so sue me. Again, click the pics to take a closer look.
I didn't take close-ups of the white ornaments this year because I did so back in 2011, which I posted
here.
Here is a picture which better shows the mantle decorations. The garland I found on Amazon and the decorations are all from Walmart. The mantle decorations are green, purple and gold for a Mardi Gras theme, which matches the theme of the room (if I took a pic of the left wall, you would see our New Orleans artwork).
The stockings are hung from the banister with care, haha.
Reverse angle. That globe was inherited from my Nana (my mom's mom). It was always my favorite thing in her house, and they acquired it when they moved into the house in the late 50's.
The living room tree, with our newer decorations. They look expensive, but they are ALL from Costco and Walmart. The tree topper is an angel my Nana gifted to us many years ago. The red reindeer I picked up this year at Walmart because they reminded me of the red reindeer I remember on my father's parent's Christmas tree when I was a kid, though those were red felt (old skool). My father's sister is now in possession of those ornaments.
Anyway, now all the decorations are back in their boxes in the garage awaiting the chance to be unearthed again at the end of the year. I couldn't enjoy our decorations as long as I would have liked this year, first because of the funeral arrangements and the funeral itself in early December, then the day after Christmas I contracted a really bad cold and for the next week sequestered myself as much as possible so as not to spread germs. Ah well.
Oh, and I forgot to mention in my last post, I did end up going to that performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Hodie down in San Diego just before Christmas. I was especially motivated to go because it was one of my father's favorite pieces, and he would have wanted to go himself, if he was able. I am so glad I did go because it was lovely, and the drive back along the coast was great.
