I'm gutted. Jerry Goldsmith, my favorite film and TV composer, has died at the age of 75. For those of you who don't know who Jerry Goldsmith was, where have you been? He wrote the themes for Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, and Perry Mason among many others. He also composed the scores to some of my all-time favorite films: Patton, Lilies of the Field, Alien, Aliens, Hoosiers, L.A. Confidential, and Mulan. For a complete list of scores he wrote, go here. I think what I loved so much about his music was his ability to create music that perfectly fit every particular film or show. He didn't simply reuse bits of music from his old scores in his newer ones. I can always tell a James Horner score, because he tends to use similiar instruments or styles. The same goes for John Williams and Thomas Newman, but each Jerry Goldsmith score was unique for me. He will be sorely missed.

Besides being greatly saddened today, I felt awful, healthwise. I must have been attacked by some stomach bug because this afternoon was one of the worst I've ever had. I'd say I spent hours praying to the porcelain gods, but that might be TMI. ;-) I'm feeling quite a bit better now, so thank goodness for that, though I was very unhappy to miss today's lab session run-through. Our IRB approval took something closer to 8 weeks rather than 4 (ah, the wonderful world of research), so we've had more time to tweak our sessions, timewise and content-wise.

I'll never cease to be amazed at how quickly some true artists can work. Through quillscribe's Favorite Stories list, I found A Year Like No Other by aspenlight, an incredible fic that centers on Harry and Snape. These past few weeks, she has updated every day! This is a good thing, because she always leaves me on pins and needles for what will happen next. I just adore her descriptions of Occlumency and the characterizations are excellent. ::salutes quillscribe for the find:: If there was ever anyone whom you could trust to give good recommendations, it's an author whose work you admire.

Another example of quick work was sherant's very not worksafe (read: R/NC-17) illustration of Harry/mirror!Draco, I Show Not Your Face, which was created from start to finish in an hour and a half. ::shakes head in awe::

I've also started reading Unforgivable Promises by Aethen [PG-13 so far], an HP/SS that I am really enjoying. It's quite realistic in its pacing, and the characterizations are very well done as well.

Oooo, finally an update for Possession by Jade_Tatsu! If you're a Harry/Voldemort fan at all, this is a must read. It's long, dark and sometimes a bit hard to take (the graphic parts have off-site links because of FF.net guidelines), but it's, hehe, a love story, mostly.
