only can the spirit turn the world around

In honor of Reading Rainbow, fox1013 is asking for picturebook recs.

I mentioned in my last entry how I found the way and the frequency at which they used the term "Joes" in G.I. Joe slightly annoying. Now I remember why. Think back to that episode of Daria when Kevin kept saying "bro" to Mack, which drove him nuts. So, bro...what's wrong, bro? Yo, bro, what's wrong? I'm here for you, bro! Hey, bro, wait up! ::laughs:: Same thing.

After thinking about the use of Harry Belafonte's music in Beetlejuice the other day and watching the Sesame Street tribute at the Daytime Emmys last night, I was reminded of my favorite Harry Belafonte song, "Turn the World Around." Belafonte spoke to a storyteller in Guinea, who told him about African folklore and spirituality, and he was inspired to translate the concepts he learned into a song. It turned into one of the most famous performances on The Muppet Show, but whenever I hear this song, I think of my mother, who used to sing it softly to me when I was young because it always brought a smile to my face. :-)
