Ok, so,
Killing Bono (the original UK title is I was Bono's Doppleganger) is a spectacular autobiography by this guy who went to school with Bono and how he (the guy, obviously, not Bono) utterly failed at becoming a rock star. I read this book a few years ago and LOVED it. It's funny and telling and you don't have to be a U2 fan to appreciate it. Now why, you may ask, am I talking about a book that came out five years ago? Because
they're making a movie, and I know, I know, it's not going to come out in the US ever, but I don't care. The screenplay is by the people who did
The Commitments, which is possibly one of my favorite movies ever, and
Ben Barnes is playing the guy, which... yeah. There is some serious squee going on over here.
In totally unrelated, but much geekier, news, a bunny (yes,
sabinelagrande, a plot bunny) latched onto me yesterday and won't let go.
So you remember that plot thread that keeps popping up (but never going anywhere) where
Castiel is trying to find God? Well, in the fic, our triad of heroes do, in fact, find God living in a commune in Washington state in the vessel of a young woman. Lots of angst and WTFs ensue, along with some cool/complicated mythology stuff and reflections on the nature of the divine and the roles of good and evil. Dean and Castiel hook up, obviously, just in time for Zachariah to show up with some attempted smiting, at which point chick!God -who is kind of a hippie/shaman/yoga master/mom type- is like oh hell no, and then there are demons, and the whole thing wraps up with this point about people mess themselves up and how God's love and help are always there but you have to ask for it.
This type of storytelling is so out-of-character for me, it's almost laughable, but I really like the shape of this idea and the different dynamics. I'd also like to do another "Conversations with Dean Winchester", but I've got no ideas.
Ok, now I really need to finish this presentation for tomorrow. The only problem is that I have all this information and data and no idea what it all means. *sigh*
Also, Spike is running the original Star Wars trilogy over and over. Luke is still a whiny bitch farm boy. It's awesome.
