Shanell majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. She was on the executive board of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and MUSE, as well as an active member of Phi Delta Epsilon, the International Pre-Medical Fraternity. She volunteered at Miami Children’s Hospital, Relay for Life and Hands on Miami. Aside from this, Shanell was involved in the researching and genotyping of single nucleotide polymorphisms on the Y-chromosome of a northern Indian population. She was awarded many scholarships throughout her undergraduate career, but specifically earned two that allowed her to study abroad in France. After graduating, Shanell plans on attending medical school.
