They were surrounded by death every day. It didn’t matter how much they tried, how hard they worked. At the end of it all, someone would die. When it was a patient, there was no attachment. It was easier to let it go. But when it was one of your own... it was different.
So when Alex heard that George had died, he felt his knees go out from under him as he fell, heard the screams erupting from his lips, tasted the salty tears on his tongue, and hated that he’d never told George how much he loved him.
