So let's talk motorcycles...

It's been a while since I professed my lust love of sport bikes and all the fun gear that go along with them. A recent conversation on Twitter brought it back to the forefront and actually has me once more pondering just exactly what bike I want to seriously consider. It's a given that it WILL be in the sport bike class, there really is no further debate about that needed. Over the past year or two I have done a fair amount of looking both in person and on the net. Ultimately I had decided on a Kawasaki Ninja 650R but perro's comment about it being 'unlively' got me to thinking. One of his friends chimed in that the acceleration was not smile inducing and that the suspension sucked.

All of this was triggered my me browsing Craigslist and sharing an ad I saw for a Suzuki GSXR 600. I think every time I mention those my biker friends cringe and die a little inside. To be honest I am not sure I have ever sat on one, they are just flashy, pretty and catch my eye. I am curious though. What is the stigma surrounding these bikes? Are they that bad or is it the punks who ride them that give them a bad rep?

Perro had further mentioned some other entry level and somewhat upright sitting bikes that were a bit more lively. Now to be honest I am not sure how lively I want my first bike to be but I also don't want something substandard either. I believe he mentioned SV650, FZ6, R6, F4i as possible alternatives. I shot down three of those fairly quickly. While not unattractive by any means I was not sold on the looks of the SV650 or the FZ6. Hmm, an F4i. Insanely pretty bikes but I have to say no. Oh I love the Honda CBRs, always have. The problem is that I have sat on one and it just didn't feel right for me. I also remember someone saying that you don't want to learn to drive on a Ferrari. :P I could see a CBR as maybe my second bike, after I have some years under my belt perhaps.

This leaves us with the Yamaha R6 remaining from the list. Another really pretty bike and at first glance it looks like it might be a bit too sporty for my taste I am going to at least go look at one and see how it feels. Of course when I mention on Twitter that I really like the look of the R6, bastett chimes in and says that "nothing says 'generic hoon' like an R6/1". *snickers* I have no idea what that means but it can't be flattering.

Last night I was showing Kevin pictures of three of the bikesI would seriously consider: the Ninja, the GSXR and the R6. I mainly wanted him to tell me which one he thought looked the best and of course he picks the one that are going to make my friends cringe the most, the GSXR. :P

So dear readers...I'm looking for your thoughts both positive and negative on these, or similar bikes, so I may actually get a better handle on what I really want to seriously look at. Like I said, it will be a sport bike and it has to have at least a somewhat upright riding position. I've no need or desire for a cruiser. I really don't see myself doing any long haul riding, mainly going to be fun around the area as well as commuting to and from work now and then.

Oh...this one is going to be public in case some of the folks who follow me on Twitter want to chime in so play nice. :D
