I’ve seen those year in review memes, but holy shit, mine would just be a lot of whining. So, I figured a ficcish year in review would be less traumatic for everyone.

I wrote 14 fics in 2006. I imagine that’s up from 2005 and down from 2004. Interesting. Anyway, here’s some random naval gazing.

Favorite story of the year (your own): “Proving Ground.” I love Melo and Eddie to pieces. And they never stop providing me with fic fodder. But PG was the ultimate chance for me to tie in my enthusiasm for the game--and what happened on the court--with their relationship. And I’m such a sucker for writing first times.

Your best story this year: “Stop Me If I Ever Get That Far.” Hands down. I don’t know exactly what was different about it, but there’s rhythm to it, and an almost tactile realism that I’m not sure I’ve been able to recapture, unless it was (oddly) with “Fashion Show.” A close second would have to be “Promised Land.” The way Eddie confuses Melo with his religion throughout is something I’m very proud of developing with them.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in your opinion: Oh, easily “Standing on the Edge of Summer.” I liked writing it and I really, deeply dug into those character’s heads. It’s just a fact of life that people don’t want to read original fic online.

Most fun story: “We’re After the Same Rainbow’s End.” I made myself laugh with this one. Also, I liked writing new characters after a year and more of basketball players.

Sexiest story: Hmm. Maybe “Bored With Myself.” I think that has a fast, understated sexiness that I’ve never written before. More traditionally, I’d have to go with “Promised Land.” The scene in the parking garage still turns me on.

Hardest story to write: Well, “Sex, Lies and Money,” took me damn near six months, so I’d have to go with that one.

Most telling story: Telling in what way? Telling about the characters or telling about me? If it’s telling about the characters, than I’d guess “Something to Believe In,” because it really explores Eddie’s issues about how he sees Melo, as well as taking on some of Melo’s insecurities--which I touch on in “Alone Against the World” but flesh out in StBI with the theme of home and what it means and where (or who) it is.

If this means telling in regard to ME, than it would have to be “Fashion Show.” That was all about me and my issues.
