So, it seems I've joined the Wichita Falls City Band. It's fun enough so far, and the music's pretty good/fun/nice... But man, do my lips HURT LIKE CRAZY! I hadn't played in about two years until today, so... yeah. Ouch.
Music we played today:
The Music of James Bond arranged by Jay Bocook
Selections From "The Wizard Of Oz" by Harold Arlen
The Magic Of Andrew Lloyd Weber arranged by Warren Baker
The Sound Of Music - Richard Rodgers
In case anyone's interested, the songs covered in the AWL piece are "Jesus Christ Superstar", "I Don't Know How To Love Him", "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", "Memory", and "Phantom Of The Opera."
On a related note: I hate tempo changes. And key changes. I especially hate 12/8 time. And G#s. Ugh. It doesn't help that my G# key is wonky and sticks a lot; I need to fix it again (with two-sided double-stick tape, heh heh). Oh, and I hate C#s. WORST note on my horn, I kid you not. It's nasty.
Seems as though a couple of the guys in the band are Final Fantasy dorks, which is interesting.
The first chair alto and the tenor are both really nice. They pitied me when they realized they'd forgotten to tell me that there was a typo in one of the songs, and thus I was the only one playing at one part. Eh heh heh. Oi.
Okay, gotta go. Time for me to go do Grammar homework. Yay and such.
(Jes, if you want to join the WF band, you should! If you can. It apparently meets once a week, 7:30 PM on Tuesdays. At that 1st Christian (or whatever) church across the street from MSU.)
