And when I asked one of those drivers why he couldn't just switch to 54 since four others were going the same way, he started ranting about how it's TTC's fault for a) poor scheduling and b) too much supervision.
The truth is that they run late because they're out goofing (I've seen them stop for meals and smoking breaks randomly) and I've heard one of them telling the other to "short turn" (were they go out of service halfway through the route) just to keep with the schedule. Never mind that they're dumping fifty people in the snow or, get this, in the middle of a freakin' monsoon!
It's ultimately the Union's fault. They prevent TTC from firing or even taking proper complaints against bus drivers. If this were a private business, or had a better hold over its employees like the GO Transit, people would be fired left and right for gross incompetence. Oh well.
Here's to biking or owning a car, eh?
